I have a 98 firebird, and I was just wondering how to tint my tail lights? I couldn't find anything on the forums, but I'm new so I probably missed the thread.

you can either get smoked lenses, or you can buy a product called VHT niteshades at a local automotive store, or on ebay or other online stores. If you use the search function, enter VHT niteshades and you will find what your looking for.

I've head of VHT before. I used to work at O'Reilly Auto Parts and we sold it there. I think it was $8-$9 a can. I never would have thought it was worth trying, honestly. I'll go get some today  thanks!

just know that the nightshade is perment(can be sanded off) the black outs can be poped off anytime. check with your city to see if you will get pulled over and ticketed for this before you do it.

if I scuff it with a scuff pad... and try to sand it off, will my lights look like crap? Can I just re-clear them and they look ok?

www.gvperformance.com carries VHT niteshade tint for the taillights. Just scuff them up a bit and then apply as many coats as you want to get the effect you are after.

Sorry for the crappy cell phone picture. I started my taillights today. I'm letting them dry over night then I'm going to wet sand them, clear them, and wet sand again. :) also doing the third break light tomorrow

Here's what it looks like so far:

That looks GREAT! But it also looks dark! Hopefully you won't get a ticket or worse, someone rear ends you cuz they can't see your taillights... Did you test out the brakes yet?

I like that about VHT, even though they are black as night, they are still pretty transparent and allow alot of light through.

as soon as it was dark I tested everything out. The brake lights shine through great, the parking lights are fine. The only thing I was unhappy with are the reverse lights. They look pink

One reason it may look super dark in the pictures is because I had it in my garage. I'm not sure though. When its in direct sunlight you can still see red, somewhat.

does this stuff work on turn signals and side markers?
seems like a cheaper alternative to buying the lights.
