  • fixing paint chips

I just bought a 98 firebird wit a few chips in the paint that I'd like to fix. I'd like to save money by doing it myself. I know where I can get the right paint mixed for me, but I was wondering if any of you guys have any advice as to how I should go about it, or if I need to buy one of those kits I've seen advertised.

    Re: fixing paint chips

I'm working on mine, and am leary of repaint not matching the pewter finish, so I was thinking I'd try a repair kit first.
    Here's a review I found.

I'd be curious to know if anyone has tried any of them.

I would like to see some opinions on this too. I've got some pretty serious chips that I want to touch up on my front end.

        Re: fixing paint chips

i would like to know more about this too, but i heard that you can go tot he dealer to get just a can of matching paint (in spray paint form) then you just spray some on paper or the lid and apply the paint to the scratches with a toothpick or q-tip. not sure, never done it...

                Re: fixing paint chips

I've been taking care of some of my more random chips (few on roof, fenders, quarters, etc.) with some Duplicolor and a little bit of wet sanding and polish. I've gotten pretty good at it, I'll try to do some before and after pics on the next few to post up here, and maybe a little write-up.
