Hia all, I replaced the gear in the LH headlight motor with the brass type, and it was great for about eight months. Then the same old horrible sound returned. I had not used the other gear that was sent, so I put it in the LH and it lasted a few days before the gear slipping returned. The brass gear looked ok, so is the worm gear just too worn down to use anymore? I don't think the two gears were L/R marked, unless I missed it. (If so, may explain the second gears trouble.) I have almost convinced myself the worm gear is shot. If it is, I have never seen one available. Just the main gear, or the whole motor assy. Any input? Glad to see the sites still cool... Jessica

Re: LH headlight motor worm gear
Make sure the motor is still clamped tight to the gearbox - if it isn't the worm gear can deflect away from the main gear and start skipping.Drivetrain Moderator - "There are no stupid questions, only stupid people!"

HokieBird! :) The powerdyne's got about 30,000 mi. on it since install. I sent it to Texas for new bearings when I got it, and they put the heavy duty ones I heard about in it. I see them on e-bay. I think the PD sealed bearings were good to 10K. I'm sold on these though. Not a lick of trouble from the setup at all, except for the famous loose belt syndrom. Car's a little worse for wear cuz it's lots more fun to drive with FI. I took some (long) time away from the internet, so I could win a bet with my mom. Getting a TA/hood with the cash. Hee. Not alot to do on a PC with no internet. Re: LH headlight motor worm gear
Good to hear you are still running the powerdyne! I don't even have a f-body anymore. I sold the firebird and got a subaru (mmm awd turbo). The bird was giving me problems and I got tired of driving it through snow. I miss it, but oh well.
Get some pictures when you put on the new hood and don't be shy about posting more often now that your bet is over.

Re: LH headlight motor worm gear
umm ebay does have plastic ones. I'd still say spend the extra cash so that they dont fail on you in 2-3 weeks like mine did :(

Re: LH headlight motor worm gear
I recommend the brass too. My problem is/was a sloppy worm gear. If you are strapped for cash, I will send a brass one that is undamaged I found I forgot I had.
