    Re: anybody with shaved handles?

how long has that worked well for you? im looking for long term reliability, and expanding foam as a base for an outside panel dosent sound like it would last long, even with glass over the top of it.

im thinking of totally removing the reliefs and going with a solid substrate to take its place, but im open for suggestions. particularly those coming from experience.

durr... i didnt even realize i had asked you that exact same question 2 pages ago. its really lasted 5 years?

five years, now, 3 of which being a daily driver. The only thing the foam was there for was a base to build on, it's not structual at all. even since I retired it from daily I am in and out of the car probably more than before. Like I said it is unorthodoxed.

      Here are some pics

I am not a body man by trade, but I did go to school for collision (just not my cup of tea to fix wrecked cars). That car was done by a buddy and myself, he has quite a few years experience. Composite doors were a first for both of us (as far as shaving door handles), but I am quite happy with the results.

sweet. its definitely an alternative to hacking a donor cars doors (basically buying the doors) a tube of panel bond (last i checked it was in the neighborhood of $40) and the smc filler (again, last i checked it was above $60 for a pint, and that was a number of years ago).

for that matter ive got a can of "great stuff" expanding foam and enough glass materials to do it. if it dosent last i guess i can always repaint. thanks for the info.

Not a problem man, glad I could give you another option. I had the foam in there for about three months (It looked so bad) without glass to see how it would hold up before I finished the panel. Like I said I am not a body man or a painter but I do have quit a bit of experience in both(not counting schooling). Good luck I can't wait to see your final pics!

I didn't like trying to use it without poppers either, everyone has their own ideas and some people don't like the method I chose. I just now saw the comment about using automated windows which I did have and did not help me one bit, the window was froze to the weather stripping and gm window motors don't like weather much below freezing.

its not just ghetto, its half *** ghetto. i say that because from my experience the door does not open enough to completely disengage the latch from the striker without the poppers. after a little fine tuning (cutting 3 coils off of the spring) the poppers work great, and the doors still close with a minimal amount of effort. besides, it takes 5 minutes to mount a popper... drill 3 holes, set 2 screws.

im starting to seriously doubt the fact that you own the car in the pictures youre posting.

                    Re: anybody with shaved handles?

im doubting you even own the car in the pictures you post, nevermind the fact that your doors open enough without poppers. thats pretty obvious you dont know what youre talking about.

i could take any number of pictures of the cars we have in the shop and post it as my car... forget the pics i could take from my cell phone while im visiting a random shop acting like im looking for someone to do my car, wanting a job, being there with a friend, straight up rubber neckin, or any number of reasons to be in a body shop with a cell phone for that matter. your intelligence pretty much gives away the fact that you do not know what the hell youre talking about.

so... either show solid proof that thats your car or... gtfo.

i guess so bro......what do you want to see as proof i dont have poppers and have never had a problem so how does that mean i dont know what im talking about...you dont know me or have any reason not to believe that that is my car guess you didnt see when i posted it before the paint when it was black.

Im with Jeff, I dont believe you either.

Since youve joined youve bragged about your car being this and that and finally just recently came up with pictures of your car ? If it is.

One other time, you posted pics of your sound system, and it had someone elses name in the hatch and you told me, dont bother the name, the guy that did my sound system put his name on my car, then you told me the other day it was your ex g/f's name...

Ill believe its your car when you show me a picture of you sitting in the car, holding a sign that says Fukk You StrtRacer98.

                          That'll do.
