  • Need new tires, 255's?

So yeah, I can't pass inspection this year becaues all my tires are well... bald. My rears seriously look like slicks there is no sign of tread. Awesome.

Anyway, I have the 55 option it looks like, my current tires are 235/55-16's. The best deal on tires I can find are for 255/50-16 and next best deal are a set of 245/50-16. The best deal for 235's isn't that great imo.

Anyway, quesiton is on my stock rims can I safley fit a set of 255's, since they are about 3/4" total wider than stock just curious if this would be an issue.

    Thanks!

    They should fit.

I think 255s are the stock size.

Either way, they will fit. They may look a little tall, but if you're worried about that you're gonna need tires that you're not gonna find a good deal on.

245's and 255's will both fit. 255's are a little wider. Either are fine.

The way I see and understand it 255/50's would be 26.03" in diameter, 245/50's 25.64 in diameter, and the stock 235/55's are 26.17 in diameter. So there isn't a huge size difference in height just width.

Yeah, even so there still isn't much difference in the width. Btw, thats 26.03cm, not inches

Which equates to somewhere around 10 1/2 inches. Not 26... :D

Think you may have mis-read. I was talking about diameter, as in overall diameter of the tire.. about 26". Not width. :)

BTW, ended up with a nice set of 245/50/16 all around. :) Woohoo, there goes the bank account!

255/50 and 245/50 will have the same size diameter, since the sidewall height of 50 is the same for each tire

                    Well, really the 245 is about .4" shorter Diameter, 50% 255mm = ~5.02" sidewall. 50% 245mm = ~4.82" sidewall, while at it the stock 55% of 235 = ~5.09 sidewall.

Anyway, thanks for the help, wasn't sure how well the slightly wider tires would take to the stock rims and any potential rub on the fronts but seems they are just fine.
