Well if your really worried about the clear I would scuff it up with a grey scotch brite pad to where it is dull then just re-spray the clear that is what we do at the body shop when we are blending parts. Then of course you could buff it after that to get the orange peel out.

it is already dull. ill try that if i ever redo the clear on another fender. am i ok useing 2000 insted of 2500 grit like TheGr8Schlotzky's wright up said? bacause i have alot to sand and i read that rubbing compound gets rin of everything that 2000 grit dosent get. and im out of 2500 bacause i had diarea. i use 50 grit when im constipated.

Sure, it will just take a bit longer.

Well you could still re-spray the clear I was just using blending as an example. But ya 2000 is good. whenever I buff a car I will use 1500 then go straight to 3000 keeping the surface wet when using 3000 then use the rubbing compound then the finishing compound

Re: i messed up my clearcoat real bad.

It will take longer because there will be more scratches and blemishes to get out with rubbing compound and polishing compound. With 2500, you are left with smaller scratches, which are easier to get out with the compounds.

thats what the 3000 grit with water helps smooth everything out that the 1500 grit does.

Right, but I assumed he meant he is stopping at 2000, then going to the compounds.

And just to be clear, this is all wet sanding.

the 1000 will take care of it, just be careful and try to sand the high spot as much as possible without sanding the area around it until it's mostly level.
