whats this paint called and around how much $$$ would it cost
ill look for the code for ya, just give me a lil while. ive been busy lately. as far as price it really depends on the condition of the car, whether or not you want the jambs done (fenders, hatch, inside the doors, etc) and the condition of the existing paint. generally our shop quotes paint jobs at $3500 to start, sight unseen. it really all depends on the car, how much you want done, and how well you want it done. it varies from shop to shop and generally you get what you pay for.
as far as guns go it all depends on your setup. if you have a small compressor (80 gallon minimum) conventional is the way to go, if you have a large compressor and lines hvlp is the better way. again, its all in how much you spend... you get what you pay for. my gun ran just shy of $270 and it runs at 45psi if you want exact details, but you dont have to spend quite that much to come up with a quality finish. it all depends on your experience, technique, and how much work you want to do after spraying the paint, most of that consisting of wet sanding and buffing. theres far too many variables to list in person, let alone in text and on a forum.
let me see what i can do about digging up that formula for you. ill have it as soon as i find that one book...
yeah, im usually not one to work on homo parts, but it was a chick that wanted it done, and well i wanted some things done too. plus she has some nice "assets" that helped contribute to the deal...
Well i paid 1200 for paint and materials, all ppg and that was enough paint to do a color change. It was one gallon of paint and a gallon of clear coat, with primer and materials
You did all the paint work yourself didn't you Cobalt?
Also keep in mind Cobalt had his own equipment and some expirience with this stuff. I attempted a paint job and it did not turn out good. $1000 in materials and almost two months of work everyday down the tubes (hardeners, reducers, etc.The clear coat was provided by a friend. Clear coat is expensive sh*t tooLike $200 a gallon) P.S. I used Sherwin Williams paint, please do not use Sherwin Williams. If you are going to paint then use PPG or better.
If you go to a shop expect $4000-7000 to color change your car the right way.
that color is Medium Blue Metallic, only available in 1999 F-bodies
wow. waaaaaaaaaay off. medium blue metallic (WA417G) looks more silver with a green tint. also was available on eldorados, le sabres, park avenues, and sevilles.
sorry, after reading that post i had to look it up and thats definitely not medium blue metallic. which is also a pretty ugly color...
other colors that are very close to electron blue are:
superior blue metallic (WA703J) darker and with a hint of green.
bright blue metallic (WA303D) more silver with a decent amount of blue.
arrival blue metallic (WA815K) a little lighter blue, very nice color and very close to cobalt camaro's car.
indigo blue metallic (WA856J) much darker, nice but hides the blue too much imo.
and another variant of indigo blue metallic (WA9792) not as dark as the first indigo but darker than electron blue, almost iridescent. nice color if you like darker blue metallics.
foggy headlights? wetsand... buff... WAX!!! if nissan motorsports is nismo does that mean honda motorsports is homo?
where are you guys getting 1200 for paint/materials?
my paint process cost me 250 for base and clear and about another 50-60 in tape and plastic..
What about the necessary sealer coat? Thats like $50 by itself. I went with the cheapest paint I could find. Reducers, Hardeners and all the other non paint stuff ran me like $500. Then with paint I was over $700+ and a gallon of clearcoat can run $100-200 depending on quality. Plus if you don't have the tools...
$1200 is a safe estimation of the cost of materials to me. You could probably squeak by under that but it would be difficult without skipping some major steps.
Frankly I am surprised the paint you are working with is a BC/CC and not a three stage like most pearls. (Primer / Base Coat / Pearl Coat / Clear Coat). Did you get a custom mix?
Re: whats this paint called and around how much $$$ would it cost
Yes i painted my car myself, my dad's been painting cars since he was in high school and started teaching me like 7 years ago with my first car. It takes time and patience, and some tools. You can great spray guns off the internet for low prices. We bought a gravity feed gun 4 years ago off ebay, and well we have a HUGE compressor. The thing i learned the most is that the most important step in painting is prep work. You can be the best painter in the world, but if you have wholes and waves in your body work it's gonna look like ****. 1200 is using all PPG products, i honestly don't know how you can paint a car for 250 unless your using enamel, or you know somebody. The paint alone i believe was 400, let alone clear, high build primer, primer sealer, reducer, hardener, acrylic clean, tack clothes, thinner, and other materials. Good luck to you man, and just make sure you don't have waves in your body work. run the palm of your hand over the areas softly and without looking at them and usually you will feel them. It's kinda weird but you gotta be like stevie wonder when feeling the car for imperfections and high spots.
Haven’t done anything on the Camaro, but put LEDs on my truck headlights . And my oil pressure sensor went out on the truck so going to fix that this...
