Car Update

Well, Im just sittin here, so I figured I'd let everyone know what I'm up to since it's kinda interesting, and if you've never seen a firebird gutted before, now's your chance! My car's been sitting about 9 months now with the transmission out of commission. And after a decent sized snow had melted, I decided to get back to work on her. I soon discovered that my carpet matting on my passenger side had soaked up more water than a sponge, and a chipmunk had eaten the grommet on the pass. side firewall which allowed all the melted snow to leak in. So i tore the interior out, pulled the carpet, and gave it a week to dry. while i had it all out I said, Hell, I've always wanted an ebony black interior, so I started to paint all the interior parts flat black with interior paint, I got so into I pulled the dash out, everything! I dyed all the carpet with Automagic fabric dye and here are some pictures of what I've been up to.

I'm sorry man. That really sucks. Apparently grommets are delicious!
And also nice rockband stuff in the corner.

and yeah, this was loads of fun...I love a good teardown! :banana::rock:

I'm suprised that no one noticed that I have no front bumper....lol

hey man looks really good, are you using adhesion promoter, if not you should pick up a can, makes that vinyl paint alot more durable, anyways looks great.

yeah, it's kinda cool actually, down the street is a paint shop that does custom mixed VHT interior paint in aerosol spray cans, and they mixed adhesion promoter with the paint... the guy said that by mixing it together, it not only promotes adhesion, but seals the paint too... story with the bumper is that I moved from MD (who requires front tags) to PA (who doesn't) :naughty: See where this is going? Anyway, wanted to get rid of the front tag bracket, and needed to be repainted anyway, so it's in my uncle's body shop, because i $#@ing hate exterior auto painting! Thanks for the compliment's guys!

(angles are messed up, but its almost impossible to get 2 pics with the same angle on google images :))

Very nice work, that dash looks a ton better. Do tell how that carpet turns out with the dye. Is it still soft or more brittle? Smell bad?

Okay, so, latest update:

After leaving the house at 6:30 in the morning and spending ten hours at work, I got home with about an hour and a half of sunlight to work with. Got the carpet dyed (see pics below), and schlotsky, to answer your question; it's not much more brittle. It actually retained it's softness rather well. I think that's attributed to shampooing it the night before! And it didn't smell that bad, but bad enough for me to spray it down with fragrance. The local Advance auto sells this stuff called "Blaze Away" and WOW. This stuff smells great, only takes like three sprays to cover the whole carpet. I used this stuff in my mercedes when I had it, and it lasted 6 months. So after I finished all that, I rewired my MSD DIS-4 so I can mount it in the trunk and have the wires not interfere with any interior panels at all. Hidden. It's gonna look OEM when I'm done, and I like that appearance. Other than that, I just moved the carpet back into the basement, and I'm doing some messages before tommorrow's 14 hour day.
