  • New Dash?

    Hello everyone,

Let me First introduce myself, My name is Dave and I am a car enthusiast (Mostly GM Products) and I recently bought my first Camaro from my brother. It's a 1993 v6 and I love her already

But just yesterday after giving her a little wash.... I walked around the car and noticed about a 2-3 ft crack in the windshield! Man this sucks. The dash cracked when my bro got her about a year ago now because it was from florida and the heat got it good. Now that I need a new windshield I started to think, does the dash support it at all? Do you all think I should replace the dash before I get the new windshield or will it not matter? Thank you all for your help!

    Regards,
    Dave

dont quote me on this, but im pretty sure it doesnt support the windshield...my dash pad is cracked also, on the drivers side pretty bad, and if i touch it, it wiggles freely all the way up to the windshield, so i dont think it goes under the windshield or anything

no, the dash doesn't support the windsheild. That dang dashpad is quite and expensive item though. mine cracked as well (as many do) but instead of buying a new one, I reinforced it on the back and glue it back flat, then covered it in black vinyl. It looks great and it wasn't too hard.

I think thats what I'm going to do. did you remove it I guess? or inject the glue and clamp it in place.

I think I'm going to to do black, but it might get a bit hot. maybe red then.

hey gr8, you have a pic of that pad? mine is cracked because some IDIOT tried to take off the pillar to put butterflies on the headliner and cracked mine.. most likely i'll get a new pad, but wrapping it might be an option too... This was prior to me purchasing the car FYI...

Wrapping the dash is a great idea, unfortunately I cant seem to win here. The dash cracked and then spidered a bit and isn't fixable.... and now this crack is huge on my windshield. I guess I'll fix the windshield first then the dash. Thanks everyone! I think I will wrap the new dash when I get it, try to save it this time!

This was before I glued down around the vent..hence the bubbles.

Mines cracked, so I just bought a new one from a guy. I'm going to reinforce the new one though before installing it.

What do you reinforce it with?? This may be a precautionary measure for me

if by reinforce it you mean armor-all it, then good idea.
