  • Shifter skirt on an Auto?

Ha, well I thought i'd ask if there is a shifter skirt made for an Auto tranny, I think it'd be cool. My friend has one on his Grand Am GT so that where I got the idea.

i always thought it was kind of poserish, puttin a boot on an auto...like tryin to make an auto stick look like a manual shifter...

if would proabably take a little fabbing to get one to work on an Fbody, since the only real "track" it could go in is really narrow

Edit: i have to admit, nowadays the booted look is startin to grow on me, now that i've really improved my interior alot

I had one on mine....didn't like it to much, I suggest you leave it alone.

Got my shifter boot and shift knob out of a Grand Prix. Swapped right in.

Ignore the messy looking forward part of the console. That's since been taken care of.

Best part was it only cost $12 from the junk yard. Figured why not toy with it and try it out.

                  ewww
thats like using the "manual" settings on an auto so you feel like you're really shifting. Don't do it. Don't have anything against autos, just seems poserish.

Re: Shifter skirt on an Auto?

I think it cleans up the look somewhat. Some luxury cars come with shift boots for manuals and automatics. Don't think it would be poser-like, just something different.

And manually shifting an automatic... that's just dumb. Only time that should be done is if the transmission is unable to shift on its own.

haha Yeah I dont see the point in shiftin an auto when its capable of shifting itself, I just want the boot because I think it looks nice :D

Re: Shifter skirt on an Auto?

I used the shift handle and boot from a late model Grand Am on mine. Got it dirt cheap from the wrecking yard. All I did to make it suit me a little more is cut out the plastic piece that keeps it spread out in the middle, and replace the rubber o-ring around the top with a ziptie to keep it in place. Otherwise it went in with no trouble. And I like the feeling of the shift handle alot better, and the boot helps clean up the look a little. I know some people on here say it looks "poserish". It's all a matter of opinion though. Alot of automatic equipped cars come with shifter boots.
