the single layered glass conveys the cold a lot more than fabric... thats why blankets arent made out of glass, smart one.

Tint.......?? Thats what i plan on doing anyways. Cheap, easy, looks good, and blocks heat. Problem solved.

mine are tinted pretty dark, so "shading" them has never really been a concern of mine

I just bought some shades off ebay for 40 shipped. Out here in AZ during the summer there a must if your cars going to be sitting outside for a few hours or you drive over an hour like me just to get to work =)
My T-tops are already tinted and it doesnt seem to help much to be honest but Im sure it does. I often take a hat with me just to keep the sunoff my brow lol it actualy helps

the only use for the ttop shades are for if your car has the infamous roof bubbles problem. it keeps the interior from heating up a little when combined with a windshield sun blocker. with a little ingenuity it should be real easy to make your own... they sell the double sided velcro tape at walmart, or a hobby store, etc.... then just cut some material and get a hard backing to glue it to.
