  • polishing intake manifold, TB, and alternator

I read the write up on how to polish aluminum, but that was how to polish aluminum rims. it says to start with 320 grit...but that is for already smooth rims, and these surfaces are pretty rough, so I was thinking of starting with 120, then stepping to 220, then to 320, and following the write up from there. Does anyone know how long this could take? I dont feel like paying over $300 for this job, and am just curious on how much time this could consume if little breaks are taken. Thanks

I started with 60 on a dremel to get the casting off.

how long did it take you to finish the job? hmm...dremel'd be nice, i was planning on doing this by hand. was a dremel able to get between the lettering on the intake manifold?

polishing those items are going to take forever to make them look good. I would say forget doing the alternator with all those fins, lol.

                since you asked.............

I got the top end decent, hand & dremel sanded, but since I didn't do the lower it ened up looking like azz overall. I did bead blast it though, and that helped a lot to clear off any junk & what not, also cleaned up the innards of it. If also doing the lower manifold, might as well polish up the runners.

I am rather happy w/how the valve covers ended up, and that was jsut a weekend job.

Looks good slow to go. Yea keeping up with polish is really though also. I am getting rid of the casting and then painting for a real smooth look.
