because I've taken one apart. you probably won't be able to get it assembled right if you manage not to break any of the pieces. i can snap some pics for you.
yeah...i went to the chrome plating place here in town, and they have to dip it into a chrome bath...so yeah the inside would be chromed also. stupid me, i dont know why i didnt think they would have to do that. i guess i thought it would be spray? anyway...they gave me the number to a guy in town that is really good at polishing, called him, and im going to take it all to him tomorrow morning for a price estimate.
so...will aluminum tarnish? how often will i have to polish it for it to stay nice and shiney haha. if its a once a month thing i have no problem with that. I just hear aluminum oxidizes if it doesnt have a clear coat on it.
just do it yourself, its really simple and not as hard as people are making it out to be. I did my intake on the car, leaning over it so it couldnt have taken me that long or i wouldnt have a back right now. If i would have taken it off it would have taken me half the time. and a simple $20 palm randon sander will quickly take down the flat spots. i touch it uo with my mothers polish once in a while, maybe once a month when i clean the engine, and the shine comes right back. no need for a sealant.
well, its all done! it looks amazing, had them professionally polished, decided against clear coat. I'll juts polish them really good once a month. the cars all back together and looking great. I'll have pics whenever i get my hands on a digital camera...
$350 for all of them. after starting on my intake manifold (the easiest in my opinion...) and spending two whole days just sanding it and i didnt make it past 120 grit and you have to step sand to 2000 grit. I figured if i was going to spend that much time sanding aluminum id kill myself, so I decided to just take it to a professional that could shine it up a lot better than i anyway...not to mention a lot faster! ill try and get some pics today
PICTURES!!!!!! I may not make it to michigan, the weather doesn't look too good right now. I plan on waking up the day of and checking the radar out, if its clear I will be there, if theres rain, count me out.
