  • Interior Removal?

So I did a few searches and couldn't really find what I needed. What I'm looking for is a writeup for removing the interior out of my 99' camaro. Actually, all I really need to remove is the center console, and the two rear plastic panels. I'm pulling my carpet to shampoo it, running new power wire and dynomatting it and I'd like to do it without breaking stuff :)

    Re: Interior Removal?

yeah I did the same thing, have you bought the dynomat yet? if not, don't use RAAMmat or second skin, they are both better products and they are cheaper.

I used RAAMmat, it took first place in performance at the sound deadener showdown, and second in quality.

Dynomat took 4th place in borh catagories if I remember correctly

Anyway, on to removing the interior. you'll have to pull more than those two things to pull the carpet. I'm not walking out to my car to write this so I will most likely forget things, when you find things I've left out just post more questions.

you will have to remove the seats, the front seats are held in place by 4 nuts each (and wire harnesses if they are electric. The bottom of the back seats are only held in place by one bolt each, just pull up on the front of them and you'll see it, I forget how many bolts hold the back in place, but it was pretty straight forward.

You'll also have to remove the seatbelts, first there is a peice there to make them look nice, just turn that counter clockwise with a quarter, you'll see what I mean. Then there are also torque screws holding them down.

You'll need a philips head screwdriver to take off the the trim panels along the side (where the doors close). take off the on towards the front of the car first, I forget, but you might need to pull off the panel underneath the steering wheel first too, if so that is just held in by a few screws.

You'll have to pull off the panels where your rear speaker sit too, those are the easiest panels, very straight forward, the one by the spare tire has those 3 things too turn, then it comes right off. The other one you just need to pull a certain way, there are no screws holding it down.

for the interior sail panels, you just need to put a small thin flat head screwdrivers into the slit on the clothing hanger, that will pop out that pin, it will take some pulling to get it all of the way out. Other then that, there is just a few hooks, just like what is on the door panels, and some velcrow holding it there.

Now for the center console. Mine is an automatic, so the first thing I did was pop out the staple that holds the shift knob on, once it is out it will just pull right off. It might be hard to see, but it is there, right on the back by the threads. then there are 2 screws at the front of the console, on either side of the hump in the center. Also there are a few screws in the compartment that is between the seats. I think there is one screw that is hard to see, take off the coin holder to see it.

I think that is it, it is pretty straight forward, putting everything back together is much harder, just remember, keep all the parts you take off organized (I like to tape the screw to the panels they go to with some masking tape. Also don't pull on anything too hard, if you have to pull really hard, there's probably another hook or screw somewhere.

**that part about the center console might not be perfectly accurate, it might of been to pieces. I did the this a while ago, and I haven't been around my car much because of school. Just post any questions and me or some other member will find out the answers for sure.

      Re: Interior Removal?

The seat bolts are all 13mm. To get the rear seat back off, you'll have to remove two nuts from the underside of the seat, and then lift up on it and it will come out. The Seatbelt anchors are torx starheads, T-55 IIRC. use a no. 3 philips head on the the side panels, the drivers side will actually have 5 screws while the passenger side will have 4. in order to remove the sail panels, you'll also have to remove the back t-top covers (if it has them), they're held in by two no.3 philips heads. then you can pull the sail panels. you will have to remove the knee bolster on the drivers side dash as well as both sound panels under the dash. when you dynamat, (or w/e you're using) make sure to get the area behind the rear seat well, and make sure to get the area behind the sail panels. If you have any specific questions you can PM me, I just had my ENTIRE INTERIOR pulled (dash, carpet, and all) and would love to help you out.

        Re: Interior Removal?

Thanks for the information guys. Didn't even think about the c staple, was wondering why I couldn't find the screw on it :) It was raining cats and dogs today so I decided to hold off until thursday. Decided to replace most of my interior lights with white LEDS too since I'll have everything out of the car.
