I used a product by SEM called PROMAX gloss black.. I've used a lot of black rattle cans and I've found it to be the blackest. The others are dark grey in comparison. It's also a good high quality paint. I picked it up at a CarQuest in the paint department, but I've also seen it available online if there isn't a carquest near you. There are also now "wheel paints" out, but I don't have any direct experience with them, so I can't tell you anything positive or negative about them. For all I know, it could be a regular enamel with a different label.

Hey, whats up everyone? I got a chance to put black on the rims today here is a pic.

I let them dry for 4 hours and was going to put the clear coat on, and decided to practice on the center caps first. Which I am glad that I did, because as soon as I sprayed it the black paint started to crinkle. I took some pics here they are.





Should I have waited longer for the clear coat, or is it something else. Thanks for any advice that anyone can give and later.

You should wait between 3-4 hours between base and clear. If you miss that window, wait 12-24 hours depending on curing temperature. Also if you miss the window, be sure to wash down your base with water and a grease cutting soap like dawn, then after rinsing and drying, spray the clear. If your base is enamel (I'm assuming it is) you'll need to make sure your clear is also enamel.
