  • "Camaro" panel third brake light?

wasn't sure if this was electronics or appearance section material so i put it here, but the mods can move it if they want...

ok so.. i was just thinking... how hard would it be to like, re-route your 3rd brakelight to the berger panel; like the fillins for the word camaro would be cutout and you put like red brake light LED's back there and made that your 3rd brake light so it would light up at night and stuff... i just though it would be cool, unique, and better than fill-ins
so how hard do you guys think it would be?

I've wondered this myself, I don't think it'd be hard, make it LED and all the time consuming part would be the wiring I would think. Definitely have to cut carefully though or just drill a whole in each letter for the wiring

how would you get the light to come through the letters? they would just be like, open holes?

you could cut the letters out... and fill it in with something clear...like fiberglass... so it wouldn't be indented letters, it would be smoothed out with the rest, but clear... and it would light up...

I think there is a guy on www.ls1tech.com who did this and posted a how to. Look around on that site .

I'd say the easiest thing to do would be drill holes for the leds and silicon them each in from the back. Wire then together, not a big deal, then run the wire in through the quarter panel, up the c pillar and to the plug where the third tail light plugs in.

I don't think it would be too hard, but not my cup of tea.

                    Re: how hard?

you could always wire up the LED's onto a a circuit board, and then epoxy posts onto the berger panel, and screw the LED board onto the posts so it's spaced correctly, cut out the letters and seal them with 10 mil plexiglass...

if anyone has a spare berger panel i'd be willing to do the project. i've got a pretty solid idea. then return it to ya...

no, because fiberglass has to have some sort of mat inside it the add strength and form, and the mat clouds it to a translucent finish....

and even if you used just fiber glass resin, it would be incredibly hard to get it smooth enough to look right

having built many custom sub boxes, i can tell you from experience...lol

yeh once you get the resin in, it starts to look pretty clear but...not clear enough from a brakelight. very translucent.
