I got pre-97 tails for my 97 Camaro; it originally came with altezzas. It's an upgrade, but I still want the blacked out look. BUT one thing I noticed when I blacked out my Altezzas is my reverse lights didn't show as well as I had hoped. Here's my idea; what about taping off the tails and doing a few coats (say 3ish), then pull off the tape and do another few coats (3ish again). I don't want to leave it unpainted, cuz it'll look awkward on my Camaro (Red/black), but I don't want it as dark as my tails so i can see what I'm backing into :P. What do you guys think?

Quick photoshop of what I mean:

    Before:

    After:

A side is fully blacked out on reverse lights, while B side has 70% on the reverse lights.

I think it's a good idea. Should work out just fine, just so long as you prep everything correctly at the same time. 6 coats will be pretty dark though.

I like the photochop you did of it. Red w/Black always makes for a classic but awesome team.

dude your 3rd brake light would look a lot better as a chevy emblem
it already says camaro right under it.

Side Markers are Bow-Ties :). I was thinking of putting V6 in there, but figured I'd just stick with Camaro; this way at night people can see since my inserts aren't reflective.

I think you'll find that stock tail lights take less niteshades to tint than altezzas with the clear lenses and chrome reflectivity. One coat got mine to how they are. They are dark but in sun you can still see the red and clear. At night or out of the sunlight they look black. I think I might do 1 coat on the reverse lights, and 2-3 on the rest if you want that look.

Alright. I usually do light-med coats, but I'll see how it turns out. Worst comes to worst, I sand it down and start again :P.
