I was out polishing my wheels yesterday with mothers, and I was thinking about metal polish while drinking diet coke (never do this), when an idea hit me. So I poured a little coke on a rag and rubbed it on the wheel. WTF it worked great? My only thought is that the phosphoric acid probably oxidizes the aluminum more evenly than the air or something. I don't know if mothers has acid polish in it but it probably does. Anyway, I can't say I actually recommend it since its not really easier or cheaper or better than metal polish, but maybe if you run out?

anyway, a couple words of warning to people who might want to try:
    1. use diet, darkly colored soda (sugar on your car is probably not a good thing)
    2. rinse with plenty of water and wipe off afterward, probably best not to leave it on too long.
    3. You'll probably have to use a lot, since its very liquid. Just keep the rag or whatever damp, don't let it drip
    4. don't get any on your brakes.

stupid? yeh kinda. But amusing at least
