How many Quarts of paint will it take to paint my car??

^^ What the title says, I want to get the car painted and I have several different quotes on the paint, I'm buying it and having someone local paint it. (Not Maaco)

How man coats of clear as well

I believe 2 quarts will be adequate to cover the car. Because you need an equal amount of thinner to thin the paint out, which in effect gives you "twice as much paint." But let's let the guys with experience in this chime in.

1 gallon= 4 quarts, or 2 quarts paint, 2 quarts thinner. Unless, of course, you meant 1 gallon paint, 1 gallon thinner. Or maybe you are just talking 2 base, 2 clear..?

just buy a gallon. its not expensive.

you need 1 gal of base... and 1 gal of thin. which makes 2 gal of sprayable paint. its a 1:1 mixing ratio... lol

course there is fish eye remover if you decide to use it. I never have and think its a waste of money, and a flex agent which helps the paint flex when installing the parts (kinda rubberizes the paint) which you'll need for the fenders, bumper and hood. always have a GOOD amount of thinner to clean your parts, aswell as a GOOD wax and grease remover.. Dont forget you need primer, sealer (dont need it, but its a good idea to get to prevent bleed through) ur base, clear and a catilyst (harnder)...

I say all of this because if the people who are painting your ride are letting you purchase the materials.. you'll want those, because most shops will charge you a ton for the materials, then not give it back to ya.

Two quarts should be more than enough, especially if you have t tops. Two quarts was enough to paint my truck's exterior, doors, under hood, tonnue cover and inside the bed. Hell, grab an extra quart. It's not bad to have too much. Then grab a gallon can of clear.

1 gallon of base is more than enough. we did 3 coats and still had tons leftover. we did under the hood, engine bay, door jambs, etc.. its plenty. but like other people said, its not that expensive so just get a whole gallon.

get a gal. you never know if you need that extra.. things happen, and it sucks having to redo a whole paint job because you ran out.
