if you're keeping the berger, then don't shade the tails. Stick with 93-96 as they flow better with the hatch lines.

I don't know why, but I personally like the 97+ taillights because of the amber they have in them. I don't get it because I really don't like they way the turn signals are in the front, but oh well. Now if only they lined up with the hatch lines too...

I can see how you like them. The lines are parallel to the hatch lines.

The 93-96 tail lights looks really good at night time. Plus you do decide to shade it it would look even better when you hit your brakes.

I voted for 93-96 nite shades, but on mine right now I have the carbon fiber Alteezes which look good, but if I change them it will be to the black ones. Just personal preference. Which you should do, I don't ask people what should I do, I just do what I like and really don't care if other people like it or not. It's not their car. So, I would do what you like and not worry about what others think.

i think the amber looks better with the pewter.

though blacked out 93-96's might look the best with the black panel.

but your panel is matte/satin...can you do nite shades with a matte or satin finish? that might look better than gloss.

European tails  but seriously, with berger, You can go with tinted tails..just don't tint the back up light portion (or maybe very light tint over that area)

I think that the 93-97 tail lights look the best, but I'm one of those people who would prefer just keeping the year appropriate lights on the car. But if you are open to changing, I'd say go with the 93-97. If you nightshade them I think it might be too much dark on the back of the car. Then again my styling taste tend to stray on the conservative side.
