  • Need help with rear hatch

    Hey all,

The rear hatch on my 97 3.8 seems to be off center. I am not sure if it is the hinges, or the hatch itself. See pic below.

The driver side has a gap of about 1/2 to 3/4 in, while the passenger side has a 1/4 in gap.

If you look at the top of the hatch, where the glass meets the roof line, you can barely see that the hatch hangs s little lower on the driver side than the passenger.

    Any suggestions?

Apparently the picture did not go through.

The pictures of the rear of the car are collected in the link below.

Re: Need help with rear hatch

i had a similiar problem when i put my Trans Am hatch on my Firebird.

maybe thats not the original hatch that came with it so its off a little bit.
or its cuz its been hit and wrecked in that area so it bent something.

Re: Need help with rear hatch

I am guessing that it was caused by whatever cracked the spoiler/bumper. I guess I can loosen the hatch and see if I can line it up straight.

Could that be a possible bent frame? I have no idea, but it's just a guess. Is anything else misaligned?

I have noticed that the driver side hinge seems bent, or lower than the passenger side hinge. Does anyone know the part number for the hinges under the rear hatch near the roofline? I would assume that replacing them should adjust the misalignment.

when i had my IROC i had the same problem and it was the shock that was no good and was putting less pressure to that side

                  mmmm...IROC... Who wouldn't want one.
I never thought of the shocks being the issue. Thanks for the heads up. Off to the junkyard today to see if I can find any good parts.
