Ok i just bought an 01 firebird an it has white face overlays. The problem is the guy who installed them before me didnt cut any needles to the right size so the gas gauge and oil gauge stick and dont read right if i hit the glass they will read correctly its just a pain. Also they didnt use good glue for the overlay on the speedo cuz its bubbling up causing the needle of the speedo to stop at around 75. Can I remove the white faces will the original faces be ok underneath or is it better to just get another panel? Thanks Dan-

Re: White Face Gauges Removal possible?
I think the guy you got the car from is an idiot. Your not supposed to glue the gauges on! *sigh*
Try removing them. If the faces are messed up then go from there. Either get another panel or buy a new white overlay and do it right. Do you like the way the overlays look?

Re: White Face Gauges Removal possible?
Ya trust me if you looked at some of the stuff this guy did it makes you wonder... Anyway the gauge overlays look good I only was gunna remove them for now cuz it would be nice to kno my speed past 45 and have an oil pressure and have an accurate gas reading. Ill try removing the faces and go from there. I read a bit about removing the panel. You take off the cover under the collumn there you will find 2 screws once theyre out the clear glass comes off and then un screw the cluster...Did i miss anything?

Re: White Face Gauges Removal possible?
Sounds like you bought your car from the same idiot that I did. Mine wired in his radio using his own "performance harness" with all wires being the same color. Also, he re-wired the fuse box, so that the fuses all lined up in numerical order. Took me 9 hours of work to get that crap redone to the factory setup.

Re: White Face Gauges Removal possible?
I'm sorry buddy, but if your overlays are glued on, assuming you can even get the glue off, your gauges underneath are likely going to look horrible. That, and the only possible way I can see you getting off glued on gauge overlays would be taking off all the needles, which may cause your gauges to be inaccurate unless done correctly. You might be better off buying a new cluster. That is of course unless the overlays are not glued on, but that the overlays were just of bad quality and are bubbling and separating. Only one way to find out I suppose!

Re: White Face Gauges Removal possible?
Ok i took off the panel and the faces underneath looked new. The white overlays were just really crappy so i tossed them. To put the needles on i knew what the operating temp of the car was so I let it warm up for about 15 minutes then put the needle on 210 where it normally runs. I used a volt meter for the volt gauge. Then for the fuel i just marked what the fuel was before I took the needle off. And the tach i just set to 0 and started the car nailed the gas in park and adjusted it so that in floored it only revved to the 4500 rev limiter mark which is where it stoped before. The idle speed loked about right too 700rpm. Then the speedo ijust put at 0 since the car wasnt moving:naughty. Hopefully all goes well.I also had to remove the drivers door today because the top hinge went bad or somebody sat on it and the fiberglass where the bottom hinge is cracked for about 5 inches. Got a hinge from the j yad and fiberglassed the door will paint and reassemble tomarrow. Thanks for the help Dan-
