Degrading side molding??

Hey my 97 firebird has this 1/4 inch plastic molding on the doors that has changed color from waxing i guess, it turn gray and feels rough where it has ,my car is red so it looks kinda bad, any ideas as to where i can buy this molding, i cant seem to find it anywhere??

Most of us just remove it, whether it's going bad or not. I haven't seen it for sale anywhere, but that's because no one seems to want it. You could take your off and sand and repaint it if you want to keep it, otherwise I'd just remove it.

will the paint be different under it? i never thought of removing it, i dont really like it anyway. the rest of the cars paint is like new ,it a 97 but never winter driven and that means alot here in canada, and only 65k on it?

My car is red, with 100k+ miles on it. I removed the trim from mine, and couldn't tell it was there before.

If it's been garaged, you should be fine. If not, you'll need to take it off anyway to either replace it or refinish it. Many people have had luck with taking theirs off and not having a less faded line. Just use some dental floss and rubbing alcohol or equivalent to remove it and the stickiness left behind.

k i think im gonna try it ,its gonna go down to 40degrees tonight so ill wait for a warmer day or use a hair dryer,im gonna try the quarter panel smaller one first,mayby ill take some pics as i do it

so i hear there could be holes under the firebird emblem so that it was put on straight at factory, any truth to this??

No, there's no holes. Just adhesive holding it on.

Shoot, brother. You don't need to use a hair dryer. I simply pulled mine off one night with my large hands. You've just got to use a lot of Goo Gone to remove the remaining residue. Then, simply put a coat of wax over it, and it will look good. My 2002 had just 66,000 miles when I removed my side molding and I live in Florida. It looks brilliant.

yeah you need more than a hot day. heat gun or hair dryer.
