      Re: Molding Removal Complete!!

It'll be easier if you heat up the glue behind it with a hair dryer or heat gun. Then you can either just pull it off or saw the glue in half with fishing line or floss and peel the rest of the glue off with your thumb.

Ok, so my molding has been on the car for 14 years, i would shoot a blow dryer or heat gun at the molding and then saw off and peel? I'm just worried the old paint wouldn't hold up? Any experience with that?

there are no guarantees that its going to come off alright. usually it does, but i've seen it turn out to be a disaster as well.

alright, I'll probably just stay away from it till I paint the whole car then. Just don't like the faded almost white strip down the side of my red car.

Don't forget to take off the Firebird lettering as well!

Blackandgold you can try to take it of and if the paint is faded or whatever you can always put it back on,or paint it and put it back on.

Ya, thats true, and it probably won't look too much worse if its bad. After I get the molding off, how would I remove the excess glue?

I rolled it off with my thumb,no heat or anything. Although i did have a nice blister,it was worth it.Just stick some fishing line under and pull it up and down,it helps if ya have someone to lightly pull the molding as you cut it with the line.but not needed.you can try just doing the small piece on the front or back after the door and it will give u an idea of what it will look like, but like you said it shouldnt look worse then a white faded strip, and if it does put it back on with some double sided tap,or paint it and do so.
