  • Changing the color of gauge needles

I've seen many people change the color of their gauge needles (non-camaro/firebird) by taking them off and using rubbing alcohol and nail polish remover to make the needles clear and then recolor them something different. For some reason it seems like the f-body needles are actual orange plastic. Is there anyway to take the orange out of them or does anyone know where you can get different color needles?

I don't think anyone here has tried it. There's only one way to find out!

You're likely better off buying a spare cluster or the needles from someone and trying at them. I've had mine apart a few times, but I can't say I paid any attention to how the needles were designed.

    Good luck.

I've never heard of changing your gauge's needle colors. For that one little thing its probably a lot of work.

Alright so I took a stab at it. And yes getting the needles lined up is a pain. What I learned is the orange color of the needles are actually cast into the needle itself, so the orange won't come off. But I asked around to some places that do custom gauges, to see if they did needles and I got some interesting but questionable information...

the needles for 00-02 firebirds and camaros have the orange paint cast into them, so they are made of orange plastic basically.
But the guy there said the needles for 93-97 have the orange just painted on and can be taken off.
Not sure if thats true but I'm going to give it a shot. The needles look like they're going to fit just fine

What color do you want them to be in the end?

Well I redid most of my interior lights so they're all blue LEDs. So I'm thinking either blue or white would be cool.
