I originnally had Blacked out turns signals and side markers and I had to replace the bulbs and Found out that the sockets melted. So I want to try VHT night shade and black out my turns signals and side markers again but I'm afraid the same thing will Happen again. Has any one used VHT before ?

Re: VHT night Shade what do yall think?
VHT'd my turn signals and marker lights about 5 months ago and they still look awesome. Just make sure to prep them correctly and go easy on the niteshade. Wetsanding can really make a difference too. Be sure to lightly wetsand between VHT and clear.'99 Camaro

nothing wrong with the vht stuff. it looks great done right... might want to practice on something first though. you can even get away without the clear if you have some skill with polishing.

Re: VHT night Shade what do yall think?
I had an extra set of tail lights for my GTO and I bought two cans of this from summitt to tint them. I'll start off by saying that this stuff will run on you if you don't take your time and do very light coats!
I learned the hard way. After getting a shyte-load of runs the first application, I tried to wetsand then buff them. The VHT stuff doesn't like to be wetsanded OR buffed! It can be done, it just doesn't like it. I stripped all of it off using Lacquer Thinner and started all over again.
The way I got it to work (without running) was using about 12 very light coats, and doing it out in the hot sun. After getting the coats to my liking, I mixed up some clearcoat and sprayed it on. I used about 3 coats of clear, waited about 1 week, then buffed to a phenomenal shine!
...then I sold them
I have one picture of them I've attached. It was in their drying stage (after clearcoating, but before buffing). I put pinstriping on them 4 days after the clear was applied.sigpic

Re: VHT night Shade what do yall think?
offhand I tinted my taillights.
mine are curved so I had to do alot of stretching and I hit them with a heat gun.
My dog approved, but I didn't. I didn't want to black them out I wanted just to make them more "marroon" looking So I removed them after a week. But they cam3 out pretty good, I think f-body or vette lights would be a joke to do.
Just make sure to get non-metallic tint, since it will stretch and go on more easily then metallic tint.

Re: VHT night Shade what do yall think?
I don't know about sponges, but I'll tell you what I did when I VHT'd my turn signals and marker lights. First, I cleaned off the housings and lightly scuffed them with the 3m pad. Think I used something like a 200 grit for that, but don't worry too much about the grit. Then clean them off again. Make sure it dries and spray it in light coats as hockeyman mentioned. I didn't wetsand between coats of VHT, so I waited about 15 minutes before spraying another coat. A hair dryer may help to dry it if you don't want to wait too long. After it was dark enough I let it sit overnight and lightly wetsanded the VHT with a 1000 grit. Be sure to lightly wipe off any remaining dirt from wetsanding. Then sprayed them with clear, waiting about 15 minutes in between coats. Once they had enough coats of clear, I let it sit overnight and came back to lightly wetsand it again with 2000 grit. Then I polished it with some cheap Meguirs Plastx Polish and waxed it. Installed them and they've been good as new since.
