  • I just got hids and I feel like I wasted my money

I paid 250 for my hids and they are installed on the lows and my vision at night still hsn't gotten any better however when I put on my high headlights which dosent have hids my vision is much better so Im thinking of switching the hids to the highs to see what difference it will make. I know it will make a big difference and it must be done because otherwise its a waste of money if the hids are not doing anything for me

    Any advice for me

i wondered if it would be practical to put regular hibeam bulbs on the lowbeam side, I know they wouldn't be as bright as the hi side because of the beam pattern, I may do this... Sorry to hear bout the hids, I was condidering them, but I don't know, for the money and all it doesn't seem like its worth it.

That's because they're designed for projectors, they weren't meant for reflector housings like yours. My advice... buy projectors and retrofit them properly, guarantee you'll love the results.

They have a number for the color for example I have 4300K. There is 5000K, 6000K, 8000K, etc.

              This man is correct.
Yes, I know \"Artic\" should be spelled \"Arctic\". Can any of the mods change this?

Yeah, because what oncoming driver doesn't mind getting blinded to the point of possibly causing an accident? I'm sure they would enjoy being ran off the road because they can't see a damn thing.

Please, do not take his advice. The only solution to your problem is to properly retrofit your HID's into projectors. Thats why every major auto manufacturer who equips their cars with HID's, also comes with projectors. Pointing them to blind other drivers even more is absolute carelessness.

I had an idiot blind the piss out of me the other night because he had HIDs in normal headlight housings. Please.. do everyone a favor and get projectors. With the projects I bought they sent new headlight bulbs too. I dunno if they're HIDs or not but I can see so much better at night in that car.

What year car? If it's 93-97, I would get a refund. AFAIK, no one makes projector housings for ours, so you're going to be either A) blinding everyone or B) have them aimed to low to see any better then stock. I'd either do the sealed beam conversion (look for a kit online), or just swap and silicone in new bulbs like I and numerous others have done. I like the way my lights look; nice, bright and white, and they don't blind anyone.

I run 6000k HID's on my fogs and low beams , alot better than stock, but I do have Probeam headlight covers on the front headlights so it just shines through the clear holes and the fogs have plastic coverings(protection against rocks) and a grill to go through. I have had no problems with people flashing me, also like Meatyshells said they should be aimed level and not up to where it blinds other people.

Cleaning this up. Play nice guys.

Projectors are the only legal way to use HIDs in your lights. They sell halo projectors, you may want to invest in them to get the full advantage of the HIDs, although in this case the word "full" is being used loosely based on the quality of the halo projectors I've seen.

HIDs experience much more wear and tear when turning on and off. They are meant to warm up and stay on. You'll notice if you look around that the BMWs and Mercedes, as well as any other car with stock HIDs, they have normal halogens for the high beams. There is a reason. Flashing your highs and turning them off and on every time there is an oncoming car makes HIDs inefficient for high beams and will reduce the HIDs life.
