Taking the car over Mon. for paint

Time has come , taking the car over on Monday for the paint job. Going from white to black, will be doing all the jams, some dings and body repair. Also a buffing of the paint once it is done. I also took off the side molding and added a SS spoiler. It will be the GM black clear coat with the last #'s 8555. He said it will be done in about 2 weeks, thats with the buffing done also. He has a another company come out and do the buffing he has been using for 10 years. I'll post pics when it's done.

Alright. Take lots of before and after pics. Is he also going to be removing panels in order to make sure none of the white paint shows?

He is taking off the SS spolier, side and rear ground effects(front is molded on), doing door jams, hatch, engine except for firewall of course. I'll ask or take the door panels off before I take it to him. I have the rear hatch one off so he can get the spoiler off with ease. He will have it for 2 weeks, so I hope he takes his time. Also doing some body work on it big dent and a couple of small dents.

Good choice! I have a little body work I need to have done and repaint my quarter. It looks like there were previous repairs done to my car, and whoever did it didn't do the best of jobs.

$1800 for painting and buffing, he'll have to look at the body work to see how much that will add up to. He said from my details of it he'll take out the small dents and fix some of my body work I did last time, and the big dent from a shelf falling on it when moving, he'll do for free. But the major damage is to the Tunnel mount area , where the UMI tunnel mount TQ arm mounts, I got caught up on something in a drive through car wash and it pulled the stamped metal from the frame half way through. I tried welding it with my mig, but he said he'll see what he can do, since I don't have gas on my mig just flux wire. Also having him fiberglass in the CAMARO in the back so it will be smoothed out. So I hope to get away with under $2000. He said he does normally paint jobs for around $3000 to $4000 , but I'm paying cash so I think hes cuttting me a deal , so he doesn't have to report it on his taxes. He said only bring $900 when I drop off the car , then when it is finished then I can pay him the rest, so I think he is a stand up guy.

I got it over yesterday, so will see how it comes out in a couple of weeks. He said just for the buffing afterwards it will take 2-3 days. He said they hope to get the dents out and have it sanded down and primered by Friday. Then maybe start painting it on Monday. I forgot to tell him to fill in the CAMARO part in the back , so I called today and he said no problem. I can't wait to see this finished.

I hope you did some research on the guy. I thought I was getting a good deal on my paint job, and the guy did some pretty bad work.

I've seen 3 F-body Camaros, a 69' Camaro from white to black, and a old Impala he had primered all looked great. the one F-Body Camaro had ghost flames in it(not my style, but looked great) , one had white stripes painted in it(Looked great). All looked great. Plus He only got less than half the money up front, so when I pick it up, if it isn't the way I like it , he will redo it until I'm satisfied, then he will get the rest of the money. Also it is going to cost $100 to Black out the CAMARO in the back, he is going to take the panel off, grind the letters out and drill holes in them and then fiberglass in in , so it doesn't crack later on down the road from vibrations. Sounds like he knows what he is doing , Thank God.

He is just starting up this shop so he is taking pics of all the cars he is painting and making up a webpage and a book so others can see what he has done at this shop. He expanded off from a shop on the east side. So right now he is just trying to get cars in, then when he starts getting more clients, he will expand more. All his clients have been from Speed World so far , so he is just getting the buisness started. He said he isn't making much off the cars maybe $300- $500 , but after he gets more people in he will raise up his prices a bit, since he is doing $3000-$4000 paint jobs for half the price. He said once he gets enough clients going he'll raise it up to $2500 for the paint job like I'm getting, so his profit would be like a $1000 a car, which would pay for his shop rent and everything + some profit.

every paint shop i know of, won't ask for any money until after the job is complete, and you sign off on it. With the way he's doing it, he could do a ****ty job, and just tell you to GTFO his shop if you don't like it, since he's already gotten money for it

I'm not too worried, seems like a good guy, I have a witness and a reciept for half paid for the job. Plus I'm familiar with filling claims in small claims court and superior court. I've seen his work and talked with him alot , so will see how it goes. Plus he is taking pictures of it for his shop collection. He really likes the look of it.

I saw the car today it was all sanded down with all the dents taken out. Side and rear ground effects removed and SS spoiler removed and sanded. He said the rear panel should be done this evening(fiberglasssed in and blacked out) and should be ready for primer tonight or tomorrow morning, and the it will get hit with some sealer. Then by next week it will be painted and then about 2 days for being buffed out. So by next Friday or Sat. I hope to get it back.
