How do you guys remove it?

I had unusually warm weather yesterday and decided to wash my black Camaro for salt removal used here in the Northeast highways.

3 hrs later, I find bird droppings all over the hood and windshield. While I can simply wash the windshield with Invisible Glass and a paper towel I am not sure about leaving fine swirl marks on the black paint. I thought about a pressure wash but that's overkill for $5.00 plus 6 miles to get to the carwash.

I have a hose and soap bucket ready for a quick washdown.

    Feedback appreciated.

Some sort of quick detail spray and a microfiber should take it off no problem.

Also, I would invest in a pellet gun. This used to happen to me, and needless to say, I have no more bird bomb problems.

 I learned my elderly neighbor has her birdfeeder out now. Im hoping the pesky squirrels will take care of that pretty soon.

whatever you don't do, don't scrub it. Birds eat gravel to help with their digestion, and you don't want to be grinding that into your paint

              Re: Bird Chit Removal

A proven method of removing bird crap for me is that I take a paper towel dripping wet with hot tap water, and I place it over the doo-doo. About 5-10 minutes later, remove the paper towel and the doo-doo should be soft enough to remove with just a simple pouring with a cup of water. If it's still stuck on, repeat the steps again until it washes off.

Yes, sometimes there are numerous dropping on my cars, and they're covered with a bunch of warm paper towels for a little while. Looks funny, but I have no damage afterwards.

But...whatever you do, DO NOT scrub it off! This will do much more damage to the paint, as Smoke Panther has mentioned.

I have always just sprayed it with the hose, if it doesn't come off, I get closer, if still not, i let the water soak it for a bit while I wash the other side of the car and then spray it again, but that time it comes off fine.

I had never imagined the droppings can also include gravel as part of their diet. Nature always has a surprise up her sleeve.

The bird chit has been removed so far with high pressure with my thumb and no hose gun. I have some residue left which I will treat with hot tap water and more soapy suds.

I'm quite fanatical about appearance but you guys helped me through this funny episode in my unusually warm December day.

Last question on microfiber cloths. This is something I can purchase locally or specialty auto websites?

I use Micro Fiber Towels purchased at Advanced Auto. I've tried a set purchased through Autogeek.com (Cobra Blue micro fiber towels)...and they were the same damn material and worked just as good as the ones I bought at Advanced Auto! The only difference was Advanced had them for a cheaper price.

You have to get rid of those poop right away before they sink in to your black. Trust me I know.

I made a mistake one time of parking my bird under a tall tree in order to get a shade from the hot sun. Well it's like the crows had diarrhea on my car. I was at work and I had 6 hours left and I could just leave and go to a car wash. What I did was run to the restroom and grab a whole bunch of paper towels and wet them. I placed it on the poops and let it soak it for 5 min. and they came off right away. This way I avoided swirl marks and permanent damage from it.

Its better to use cold water. Heat is a catalyst for the acids in the droppings that etch your clear coat. Heating it up would just accelerate the process.

Good first post. Welcome, by the way. :wavey:

And yes, heat and the sun accelerate the chemical effects of bird droppings on clearcoat. If it sits too long it will stain or etch the finish.

Did your car look something like this?

This was the next day after i spent 2 hours cleaning it up
but i have a car wash about 3 blocks from my house.
another thing to try that hasn't been mentioned is Wizards bug release. its worked great for me. i just follow it with some quick detail.

                            P.S.
put a fake owl around where you park. it will scare the birds away.
