is there a difference between carbon fiber and fiber glass? if so which is lighter? im looking into weight reduction parts for my car. so if i were to get a lighter hood, how much work is required, and what type of work is required, to take off my old hood and put on a new lighter one? could this be done myself?

Re: a lighter hood..some questions
There is a difference between fiberglass and carbon fiber , I think it is 10lbs lighter, but there are alot more options if you go with fiberglass. For mine since I bought my 3" SS hood for $200 off of craigs list, I just had to fiberglass one of the corners that was cracked, real easy to do and fix. Don't know about Carbon fiber how it is to fix. On install I had to sand down the area I fiberglassed since it was hitting when opening the hood so it was pretty easy to fix. I primered it and then had it painted. It was def. ligher than the stock hood. I don't know the LBS. but I would guess 15lbs to 25 lbs. Hope this helps.08' L76 6.0L 4X4 Chevy EXT.Cab LTZ Vortec MAX with Snug top cover, Dynomax exhaust,Hptuners& K&N intake

how do i get my stock hood off? and what exactly attaches the fiberglass hood to my car? what tools and whats required to do this besides sanding down?

Re: a lighter hood..some questions
The stock hardware was used when I put mine on, I think 4 bolts when the hood is open. You'll see them when you open the hood. If the hood is gel coated and your going to do it yourself, just look up some sanding prep guides and follow the instructions on sandinf it and primering it. Not really hard to do, just time consuming.08' L76 6.0L 4X4 Chevy EXT.Cab LTZ Vortec MAX with Snug top cover, Dynomax exhaust,Hptuners& K&N intake

so the stock hood i just take the bolts out and it will come off? and then basically just bolt the new hood back on and tighten the bolts? (besides the sanding)

Re: a lighter hood..some questions
No , carbon fiber weighs less, and yes you do need to allign the hood once you get it on. I have never worked with carbon fiber so I don't know how you would prep it or sand it for paint. Or even fix it if need be. I know the fiberglass one I got was easy to work with.08' L76 6.0L 4X4 Chevy EXT.Cab LTZ Vortec MAX with Snug top cover, Dynomax exhaust,Hptuners& K&N intake

No hood pins please, not needed. Facotry hareware works perfect. No problems in 2 years. PLus you don't want to ruin the hood drilling holes for the pins.08' L76 6.0L 4X4 Chevy EXT.Cab LTZ Vortec MAX with Snug top cover, Dynomax exhaust,Hptuners& K&N intake
