    Re: a lighter hood..some questions

have a cowl hood on the gt. latches up with stock hardware etc yet the hood has fliped up twice on my husband.

one time we didn't have hood pins yet, cracked the hood and smashed the windshield

second time...hood pins wheren't locked. hood fliped back, cracked hood again, ripped on the pass side hinge swong sideways and smashed the windshield and fender...

    trust me.... hood pins

^ you needed to put the stock hardware on right and shouldn't have any problems. I have had mine over 130mph+ on a open highway and it does vibrate a little, but my SS hood is non-functional and doesn't have the cowl cut in back so, no air gets trapped up under the hood pulling it up. Also I also double check my harware from time to time, tightening it down. I'm at the point I'm going to use thread lock on the bolts.
Or it could be because it is a Ford and is trying to kill itself.J/K,LOL
      08' L76 6.0L 4X4 Chevy EXT.Cab LTZ Vortec MAX with Snug top cover, Dynomax exhaust,Hptuners& K&N intake
96' Camaro M5 to A4 conversion, alot of mods . GT35R Turbo full suspension. Built engine

have you ever even seen the underside of a SS hood? With all the twists and turns the small amount of air, coming in through a half-inch tall intake would have to take, I'm willing to bet there's hardly anything really getting to the lid. Wind isn't exactly coming in that tiny intake, at gale-force speeds

if you get a lighter hood get pins. its better to be safe instead of throwing ont the cash you spent on the hood plus any other damages. happened to my friends MR2. have you thought about other weight reduction mods first, like removing things you dont use or need?

no i havn't. are you talking about the stock one or fiber glass? and im sure they would design it for atleast some performance, (airflow) even if its minimal.

doesn't matter, the air channels are designed in such a way, you'd be very gullible to think that there's any sort of performance gain

Think again. The only thing it's design is good for, is creating tons of placebo

The air inlet is right above where the split in the back is. The little bit of air that comes in there, would have to turn completely around and travel forward, in the same direction the car is travelling, then turn completely around again to enter the intake. All those 180-degree turns are going to devastate any velocity what little incoming air would have had. Also, above the air tray, you're not getting a powerful sucking force from the air lid anyway, so any air that goes in a SS hood intake, is air that happened to get in the way of the car...it wasn't sucked in there by the engine.

If you want an SS hood, get it for looks...that's all it's good for. You're kidding yourself if you think you're getting any performance gains

^ that is true , that is why mine is not functional, I run my air filter in the drivers fender well. It gets more than enough air where it is at. Mine is just for weight reduction and looks, also it is going to be hard making a angled TB work with a functional SS hood , just trying to find the hardware and trying to mount it.
