  • MAACO Paint?

My 97RS has amazing paint.... my 94Z28 however...while it has good paint...its polo green.

i want black. i just converted the interior to black and i want black everything. its just a driver, no shows for me and i was wondering if anyone had any advice/experiences with a MAACO paint job.

please give me any information u may have whether it be positive or incredibly negative. a price would help too. Thanks in advance!

The more you spend at MAAco, the better your paint job will be. The less, well...you get the idea.

Seriously though, I wouldn't take my car to MAACO on a bet. I've seen some of their quality paintjobs before, and they're horrible. At least, here in the Philly area.

Do a search... theres plenty of information about it.
Ultimately, you are getting what you pay for. If you just want it to look decent for 2 years or so, go for Maaco. It seems like most people will get a Maaco paint job on a car they want to sell.
People also say that the more prep you do yourself, the better the job is. They generally slack on the prepping, and thats a very important part of the process.

You'll dislike black peeling paint more than decent green paint. I'd advise you leave it as it is now until you can afford a decent paint job. Otherwise be prepared to do a lot of the prep work yourself if you want more than a half-assed paint job from Maaco.

Yes, the more you spend on it the better the paint quality. I've taken my 89 bird to Earl Schieb and Maaco and Maaco is better between the two economy paint shop.

Maaco has Dupont and Sherwinn Williams paint. See if the Maaco in your place carries them.

I would recommend that you do the taping and some prep work yourself.

I plan on taking my Fiero there. Because some of these co-called quality paint shops are charging me 2500 for it. That's more than what I paid for the car.

I paid 350 dollars to have the hood of my 98 Bird done by this so called pro shop. 8 years later it is chipping away and I can see the thin layer of paint they applied over the gel coat. I feel like I got ripped off. I might just take it to Maaco and have their Dupont paint applied on it, instead of the so-called pro shop.

            Re: MAACO Paint?

Like already said, Macco paint jobs are only good for selling a car.
I unfortunately bought a car that had a macco pait job on it and by the next spring the paint had flaked off of the hood and trunk. so my car ended up looking like a cow with blue spots.(it was a white car until the paint fell off)

              Re: MAACO Paint?

i used them for my old beater to get a fresh coat of paint. didn't change the color. it turned out great for 250 bucks.

i wouldn't use them on a good car

here is a couple pics when the paint was like a year and a half old

                  Re: MAACO Paint?

places like that will ONLY do a good paint job if you do ALL of the prep work yourself

if you take your car down there with everything taped up, all the body filler you need, and primered you can get a great paint job there that will last years

                    Re: MAACO Paint?

Macco gave me a price of $550 to change the color of mine. But I have heard there is alot of over spray and they don't use a good primer, just left over paint and then they spray the vehicle, so no sealant or anything, my last paint job was from earl shcieb, I had it always in the garage and drove about 6000 miles on it since I'm at home all the time and in one year my whole front end started chipping and also on the sides and top, they would not repaint it because they said they don't cover chips, just loss of shine. Also when I got it back it had overspray on the wheels , side mirrors and even on the weather stripping, I only paid $750 and thats with them molding the front bumper. Thats why this time i went with a private shop with a good name, that takes everything off and uses a primer, sealer and a good brand paint. Learning my lesson I would rather pay the $1900 for a great paint job with a 6 year warranty then $750 for a paint job that lasts a year. The main points to the paint job is the prep, primer, sealer(a must) and good paint and a good buff afterwards to get any flaws or orange peel out. Plus it hardens the paint. 3ike my dad said those Maccos and fast shops are just for fleet vehicles and people who are going to sell their car, but people who love their car do it right.

                      Re: MAACO Paint?

mac paint shops do a good job, PENDING the painter.

if your lookin for a good job, do your research, ask to see some of their work, if you do go with their plan, do AS MUCH prep you can do, a paint job is only as good as its prep work. ask to help with the process, ask the manager if its ok if you bring them a little something like pizza...

most of all, you can purchase your own paint and take it in there. they'll use it. but just remember, the more work you do yourself, you'll save money, and the job will look alot better.. again, its all in the painter, so just go there and ask questions.
