Gotta love the green. My Firedbird is the exact same color and looks so sweet with blacked out tail lights and black rims.

It is all prep, primer, seal the primer, spray and then buff it out. I'll get mine back this Mon. , not too bad of price $2000. it was all primered and sealed yesterday and is supposed to be painted on Fri., and after it drys they will start to buff, they might be finished on Mon. with the buffing. So that will be my pickup day.

in all seriousness you cant complain about a macco paintjob when they are like $400. Any quality job is 2k plus. So if you are looking for a good paintjob that will last then dont even mention macco.

yep yep. the only thing a macco should be used for is a car you plan on selling within a month or 2. let it be someone elses problem. anything else is just flirting with danger or chips and flaking

                Re: MAACO Paint?

the last owner repainted my 94 bird from med red met to torch red through maaco and it looks like ... there are runs all over the car, over spray on about every panel and with only 5K since the paint was applied its chipping and fading. also the clear they applied must have been 1 very thin layer because I have bugs going through it and damaging the paint.

If you read Truckin magazine there is an old article that they did on Maaco paintjobs to put a rest to the rumors that their paint jobs are so bad. They took a Chevy Silverado and completely changed the color of it and did a two tone job and it looked decent. It wasn't a $5k paint job or anything but it was alright. I think it was blue and green and had flames or something.

                    Re: MAACO Paint?

The only thing they need to do after they paint is cut and buff the paint. It would come out 100X better but it is time consumiing like 2 days alot of labor. Because when they don't it just comes out like orange peel looking. Also use better primer, and use a sealer, and the key is better paint quality.

This use to be green and was shot by MAACO back in 1988. Wasn't bad for the extremely cheap price.

Here's a $950 Maaco paint job done about 1 year ago. Still shines up well after a good wash and wax.

                          Re: MAACO Paint?

^ looks good , looks like they did do a cut & buff since there is no orange peel showing, the $500 paint jobs, I thibk they don't go the extra mile, but I think it also depends on the manager and how skilled the workers are. Mine from earl shcieb had orange peel in the paint and some runs and started to chip in the front I paid $550 for the paint job and $110 to mold the front bumper on so around $700 with taxes and whatnot. , then a couple of people put about 3 door dings in it and I had a shelf fall and dent the whole drivers side, then I fell and broke the drivers side mirror off. So I had it repainted from white to black including jams and everything and CAMARO fiberglassed in in the rear for $1650 and cut&buff for $350 , so $1900 total. 6 year warranty with it also. I need to have the hood redone since I found some spots I didn't like so it will be redone here in the next month. Your car looks really good though, any chipping in the front? or any where?

                              Re: MAACO Paint?

there is chipping on the front bumper, but i think they were caused by small rocks hitting it. all in all, i am happy with the paint job. it sure beats the flaking clearcoat it had before, and the price was reasonabel. a pro shop was charging me $2700, which is what the car was worth, so i decided to go with maaco.

I think it all depends on the credibility of the MAACO shop in the area. There's a MAACO up the highway from me, and EVERYTHING that come's out of that garage looks new. An old friend who had his older 300zx repainted by them said it still looks good after 3 years.
