  • Gave in to commercialization..

This was a test fitting, I had to rewire the lights to fit my 1157 type connectors. I'll see if I can get my video up here, it's incredible how much brighter they are.

I'm actually surprised, they don't look as bad as I thought they would. Regardless, when they go on next, they will be professionally blacked out so no one will be the wiser until I flip them on :)

No doubt, my custom ones were cooler, but they were a pain in the ***, so these should last longer, and function well.

btw, the car looks filthy..it's actually not, but I took the picture through a filthy window because I couldn't get the whole car in the picture inside the garage.

that's it on the left with the big sanded down section in the middle. The paint lifted in the center and needs to be repainted. That's getting repainted with the tails and new side markers as well as redoing the right quarter when I take it to the body shop next week. I also have a brand new painted bumper sitting in my closet, you can see my bumper isn't in it's prime even from the bad picture.

      edit:

btw, they are ugly, you can say it. It's fine, I agree. That's why they are getting blacked out :P

Doesn't look that bad really. I just hate those out of place reflectors. Wish the designers would have made them look more subtle. Hurry up and get a vid, been wanting to see those things in action for a while now.

My dad and I were discussing last night how much better it would look if they had made the reflectors bars rather than circles. They could have run two bars between the lines of LEDs on the black bars that are already there and continue the leds through where the circles are now. Would make them look 200% better imo.

            Uploading the video now.

that's running lights and flashers. You can see how ridiculously brighter the LEDs are.

Not sure how the blinker portion of the lights are supposed to work as I'm not even using that connector. My guess would be the inner portion of the light flashing brighter.

Did you just do it because of brightness? Red is bright no matter what at night or during the day, I don't see the justification of going with these over stock. They don't have the looks to them either. Fill me in?

                    Re: Gave in to commercialization..

I love LEDs. They are brighter and easier to see in the daytime, they turn in virtually instantly, whereas incandescent bulbs "fade" in and out. You can see this from the video. This makes them safer. They did studies and it improved stopping distance due to reaction time by something like 60 ft at 70mph. Plus I love the look of LEDs. You'll notice they are on most higher end new cars, they have a look that normal bulbs can't get.

I think the plastic in the spoiler may have released something that didn't agree with the primer I had on the spoiler. I'm not sure exactly why, but the paint job it's getting has a warranty so I'll be okay for next time if anything like that happens again.

Wow - like the way they light up. But in the daylight without a smoked cover... not so much.

How much does the smoked cover dim the LED's?

I would use transparent tint , I just did my rear markers and 3rd light on my SS spoiler, looks alot better and the light shows through really well.

                          Re: Gave in to commercialization..

As you can see, my stock tails are tinted--not as much as these will be, but they didn't cut down light output noticeably at all.

I have done some tinting, and I'll tell you right now I don't even want to try to tint the complex convex surface of those tail lights. It was included in my body quote for free, and I know he'll make it turn out good, so I'm going to stick with the paint.

Good luck with the paint , I had little problems with the SS light when tinting, but the side markers were simple because their so small. I might just do the VHT painting on the rear lights because they are bigger. I not the greatest tinter.LOL Good luck with your paint and tail lights.

LEDs look so much better. I have LEDs in my reverse bulbs....my reverse bulbs are now brighter then my headlights lol.

Good work, have a video of what it looks with reverse lights on?
