Re: The Gr8Schlotzky would be proud

Lol to previous post. Both of those PGM Camaros look great with those C5 thin spokes. To the OP nice paint job on that mirror, and you should ask shops how much it would cost to spray your car if you prep it. You can save a lot if you block sand it and do all the other prep work yourself.

Re: The Gr8Schlotzky would be proud

Well, it's about time I updated this thread. Some of you may know that I bought another Camaro. Same year, motor, tranny and color. Main difference is it has power everything, T-tops, different interior(two-toned gray) and the windshield is perfect.(My other one has a huge scratch from the wiper blade) So I've decided to abandon the other one and use this car. I'm swapping all my newer parts over and using my older one as my DD until I get this one built up a bit, than I'll either sell or trade the old one in for a plow truck. I've also decided to drop the Pewter/Black stripe theme for solid Black. I'll continue to update this as the project continues but the first thing was to replace both window motors(Both died with the driver down alittle so rain got in under the carpet) and pull the interior to remove any water/rust and lay down some rubberized undercoat. Here's some pics.

New on the right, old on left

Here it is after I started tearing it down

Notice how nasty the carpet is. I'm going to shampoo it and see how it comes out but will probably just replace it. The red is from a soggy *** shop rag that had been sitting there.

I'm glad my landlord is so relaxed, as this is all taking place in the parking lot of my apartment complex. Lol

This is what I found under the carpet.

You can see where I already started to remove the rust

          After the undercoating

In this pic you can see that I also started to swap out the white painted vents

While I let that cure for a few days I started work on the exterior.
Painted the mirrors the same way as before just Black instead of Pewter

            Shine is back!

Comparison shot of the painted mirror and the standard black mirror. I still need to do some more polishing compound and have yet to apply the fine swirl/scratch remover

Re: The Gr8Schlotzky would be proud

I've also gone and replaced both rear sway bar endlinks and rear bumpstops, one of the window stabilizers(broken)repaired the electronic hatch release aswell as installed new hatch struts. The previous owner had a sound system in it which he kept but left random wires all over the place going nowhere, so I've also tore that all out, swapped the stock cassette player for my CD headunit, rewired all speaker wires(factory wiring was torn out) took off the side molding and removed the gauge cluster overlay.
This is where I'm at now. Initial sanding of body panels

I'm impress. Good job so far.

What kind of compound are you using to do the polishing of that side mirror?

The sticky is in the "How to" section at the top. For bringing back the shine I wetsanded with 2000grit paper followed by Turtle wax rubbing compound(red tub) then Turtle wax polishing compound(green tub) and am using Meguiar's Scratch X to finish it off. I'll give it a few weeks before I apply some actual polish and wax.

Since I will also be doing a front end conversion in the future, I've already started collecting parts. Now this won't happen for a awhile, but it doesn't hurt to get a headstart with the headlights I've already got.
I bought them used with a good amount of cloudiness to them with what looks like very tiny cracks in the plastic

Getting ready for the "Whistler mod"

After alittle wetsanding and Meguiar's PlastX. Still have work left because it's not as perfect as I want.

Weather was decent so I managed to lay down the first coat of primer after work. Started to wetsand it smooth with 800grit but it got too dark for me too finish

Now I'm wondering what I should do with the sheetmetal behind the fender. It's just primer with some green overspray from the factory but there's alittle surface rust around the bolt holes, etc. Was thinking of just spraying it black but also thought of undercoating it. Any idea's? I figured the undercoat would hold up better.
