  • Need help aligning hood

I was recently involved in a small fender bender in a parking lot. A toyota matrix ran into me at the front driver side headlight area going about 5-10MPH.Damaged the fender, bumper cover, and hood. I got a new stock hood from a local guy parting out his car, and i bought 2 new hinges from the dealer, but i can't seem to get the hood to fit right. On the passenger side, theres a widening gap which is about 1 to 1.5in. at the front. on the driver side, the hood sort of overlaps the fender. I've loosened all the bolts and i've been trying to straighten it... can't seem to do it though. Any suggestions?

      Re: Need help aligning hood

I had problems with mine lining up to when I did the 98 front end conversion. I had a machine shop lengthen the bolt hole in the hood bracket (the one that bolts underneath the hood) into a slot so that the hood had more play to slide around. Kinda hard to describe without pictures, I'll try and take some tomorrow so it'll be easier to understand.

i have been searching all over for a hood alignment writeup and i found that link on ls1tech. it does say to open the holes up a generous amount to give you more room to play with. i plan on using it to put on my ss hood i just picked up ($200 btw:rock: from ls1tech)

nice! mine was like 300 locally. when are you doing yours? could you let me know how it turns out, i feel uneasy having to widen the holes without knowing exactly how much.

              thanks!
