  • About to paint 5-Spokes....need your opinions.

    Hey all,

I'm about to embark on painting my 5-Spokes black.
Just got all of the paint, sand paper, and got the tires off the wheels.
Can't justify dropping money for the real ZR1's I want, so this can hold me over till then.

Now, I need your opinion, thoughts, suggestions.
I want to leave lip on the wheel. Don't want hub cap looking wheels.

But my question is how much "lip" should I leave?

Here are actual ZR1's with "lotta lip"

Here are actual ZR1's with "little lip"

And Here are the 5-Spokes that will get painted. (Yes, they will get cleaned.)
Should I go to the first lip (lotta) or the second lip (little)??

I know we got some photoshop gurus around here. Unfortounetly I'm not one of 'em.
Would anybody be willing to do both senerios and then put them on my car?

    Thanks.

If you make it too black it starts to look like a spare wheel.

I think that will look good it will definitely make your stock wheels look a lot better. Are you going to polish the lip or leave it with the silver paint?

Not really sure. I think I will leave it Silver, and if I want to I can polish it down the road.

Got them washed up with dawn today, and wetsanded one wheel. I plan on spending all day after school on them, hopefully finishing before the humidity rises too high.

                  Pictures....

They came out well, but the top of the spokes isn't exactly...smooth I guess.
Maybe another coat of clear would be good.

you made do with what you had and improved it. I like that spirit! Now, how to fix the smoothness. Wetsand with 1500 grit and reclear. simple as that. when you do the clear, do it in LIGHT coats. and not in too hot/cold weather or itll do that. NICE WORK.

Yeah, the goal here was to save money.

I'll try that with the wheels soon. Thanks!
