  • Well, finally started...

Replacing my clutch that is. Currently have the torque arm out. I'm working on the driveshaft right now. Been at it (the whole project) for 3-4 hours. Lifting the car is always fun...

the only really hard part of the job is getting those damn top bolts out of the trans

it took me 3 days to do my clutch/rear main/pinion seal IIRC, i started on a friday night and finished on monday

i could do it in a few hours now, but i cleaned and repainted everything on my car, and taking the get the flywheel milled down and ordering flywheel bolts cost me a whole day

i would REALLY suggest you get new flywheel bolts, because mine snapped so easily

anyways good luck, hopefully i can help you with any questions.. and oh yeah, make sure you use some GOOD extensions for those top bolts and not cheap ones because they will twist instead of trying to get the bolt out.. thankfully i had enough 1/2" snapon extensions

Flywheel bolts are what concern me. I haven't checked NAPA yet, but from what I've read, they're hard to find.
I'll be replacing the master/slave cylinder, throwout bearing, pilot bushing, pressure plate/disc, and flywheel. So basically everything involving the transmission. Do you have a link to the rear main seal gasket?

Dealer as in car dealer? Just walk into their service area?

Well, I got the inspection plate unbolted. Would do the actual transmission bolts, but a 6 inch ratchet makes no torque...

I paid about $5 for 8 grade 8 bolts for my flywheel and 6 grade 8 bolts for my pressure plate. I didn't get them frome the dealet tho, I went through a nut and bolt place.

Would grade 8 bolts work just as well? How is your setup holding up?

                        Re: Well, finally started...

Works just fine so far, I just changed my cluch out id say a month and a half ago. No problems at all. The only thing with the new bolts though, was that the original flywheel boltss were a little longer than the grade 8 bolts I got. Not much though. While I had the flywheel off I put one of the grade 8s through it and it had plenty of thread to hold.

I'll look into that (grade 8 bolts).

i would say yes.. i stopped at many parts stores trying to get the bolts, and napa told me that i could probably use grade 8 bolts

i decided not to, and get the bolts from the gm dealer.. yeah i paid $35 more than i should have, but i wouldnt have felt right not using them

its just my opinion on the matter

Yeah, I just bought mine, I think I payed about 45ish from the dealer. Its stupid that they only came in bags of 6. Id feel better knowing I got whats supposed to go there instead of going out and buying bolts.
