Am taking out a 60,000mi. A4 (for sale soon) to put in an M5. 1.Can I just bolt on a stick shift flywheel in place of flexplate or will I have balance issues? 2.Do I need the clutch depressed switch and if so how do I connect to wiring harness in car? (Or can you just leave the auto trans wiring in place and not have a clutch safety). 3. Does the automatic steering column need changed to have the pushbutton at ignition key?
I plan to use the stickshift engine wiring harness and computer if that makes any difference.
Might want to search and look up top in the sticky where it says A4 to M5 conversion , would be a good start.

1. yes, you can just bolt it up
2. not sure, im pretty sure you need to get a new PCM for a trans swap like this, if so, you will either have to get the switch or bypass it somehow
3. no you dont need that
Ok, I did this swap over the summer so I will put in my 2 cents.
You only need a new pcm or get it tuned, not a wiring harness. You have to cut the automatic shifter harness. It will have two wires for the starting which you can connect or wire to the clutch safety switch.(They should be the two thickest wires) Two wires to go to the reverse light plug on the tranny(will have to buy the plug) and two more wires for the hatch release button which get connected together. Once you disconnect the cable from the shifter i believe the key lock is always disengauged.(was on my car) You should take "ssms5411's" advice and look at the A4-M5 swap. There is a list of all the parts you will need and I posted a diagram from the dealer on the last page for all tranny related parts w/ numbers. Hope this helps.
