I actually did the swap for the disk brakes, and the LSD was just a bonus. The old housing was badly rusted too. The used one I bought was in great condition, on the outside at least. I didn't see any evidence of oil leaks before I installed it, so I didn't think to check is there was any in there. I'm going away for a few days, when I get back I'll pop her open and see what's what. LETZRIDE, can you recommend someone local to buy from?

You could always contact champion motors http://www.cdnperf.com/ ...they're also a local shop who specialize in f-bodies and corvettes...see if they can price you something out.

This is the one I bought http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ETN-19599-010/ from summit racing...if you end up buying that, I suggest you have it shipped to the border and pick it up from there...they ship it ups and I got dinged like another 180$+ cause of brokerage crap when it got here.

One thing you 100% NEED to find out at this point is, what gears are in that rear end...if you have 3.08 or lower you have a series 2 carrier, and your gears will not work with these series 3 carriers...if you have 3.42 and higher you have a series 3 carrier, so don't go out and buy a series 2...

I get much quicker take off than the old. So, it must be at least better than a 3.08 because that's stock for a 96' v6 rear end, right?

A/C is the only option that my car came with. Where is the RPO code located and how would I decipher it?

should be on your door, it will just give a bunch of codes, if y87 is one of them then you have it lol.

Good News good news!!! It was just the U joint that was making all that racket. I'm taking this opportunity to change the drive-shaft to an aluminum unit. I bought a used one with 40K on it that came from a 2002. The U joints are in mint condition and the yoke is still attached. Will the yoke fit my T-5 transmission?

I bought a used one with 40K on it that came from a 2002. The U joints are in mint condition and the yoke is still attached. Will the yoke fit my T-5 transmission?

Yes. All driveshafts of 4th gens are interchangable.

I rejoiced much too soon. The U joint was bad, but that wasn't the problem. It was the pinion bearing. There was so much shrapnel in there, that I decided to just replace the posi and bearings. At least I now have a new Auburn unit and an aluminum driveshaft. The 3:42 gears are are a blast compared to the 3:08s.

How long should I drive with the new diff before changing the fluid? I'm assuming there's a break-in period. 500 miles rings a bell, but I'm not sure.

In my opinion if you are running a new auburn unit, and it is not giving you any troubles I would leave well enough alone. Check the fluid level occasionally and wipe any shavings off the back of the check plug. Any time I have changed the fluid on my auburn I have had to experiment with different fluids to eliminate the chattering that I caused from changing the fluid in the first place. Very temperamental units unfortunately.
