The guy at the shop swore up and down I had a leak in the intake manifold gasket. Got neck deep in the engine, replaced the gasket. Had to take off the throttle body and the throttle assembly. Turns out it wasn't the gasket, but those two stupid plastic hoses, one of which had a hole in it. The guy never bothered to check them.
In any case, I incorrectly reassembled the throttle plate and spring. I started the car, and at first it seemed fine. I let up off the brake to ease out of the driveway, then about halfway to the street I tapped the gas pedal. It floored. I hit the brakes again before I flew out the driveway, but was then stuck in the middle of the street with a car that I couldn't start without redlining.
Here's where I got really stupid.
In the interest of trying to drive the car back into the driveway, I pulled the gas pedal back with my foot and started the car. It revved up to about 3500 RPMs. Without thinking I put the car in drive with my foot still on the brake. The car practically jumped off the ground from the resulting SLAM.
Long story short, I correctly reassembled the throttle assembly, took her for a test drive, and now the car won't shift out of first gear, and putting it into drive feels like I just got rear-ended.
Is it safe to say my transmission is shot?
