Hard 1-2 Shift in my 2000 Camaro

Hi everyone,

I'm a bit new here, but have been a 'lurker' for a while reading up on just about everything I can. My 2000 V6 3800II Camaro just hit 56,000 miles, and I have been having a hard 1-2 shift after taking long trips in it, which I do everyday since I commute 72 miles a day to get to college and back. My transmission is an automatic, and from what I understand, I just need a new valve (about $20ish from what I hear). Can someone post a link to the exact valve I need to buy?

Also, would this be something I could replace myself, or just have my mechanic do it when I bring in my car for an oil change in a week or two? Also, how important is it to get this fixed quickly? I just don't want to wait too long and destroy my trans.

Sounds like you have the p1870 transmission code. You need to search the forums on how to fix this. I have somewhere a thread with all the info. you need in it. The part that needs to be replace is like $20 then your filter and pan gasket is $10 and 5-6 quarts of transmission fluid is needed. Pretty easy job actually.

yea valve body needs to be upgraded. About $300 at a trans shop to do

This is what it sounds like to me. Not $300 to fix and you can definately do it yourself with little knowledge.

It is $300 for a trans shop to do it. But yea can be done yourself if you know what you are doing for 20-30 bucks

Thats what I meant 97Rs. I drove with mine doing what yours is doing for over 3 years and 40k miles. So don't worry. My trans has 170k on it and hasn't been maintained until I got it and after the fix it's doing fine.

Depends on where you're at. If you live out in the middle of BFE like I do shops tend to rape and I was quoted more like $700. :eek:

But yeah, you can do it yourself for way cheap, although the instructions that come with the $20 part are not the best.

Might aswell do a transgo shift kit and Vette servo while your at it, if doing it yourself, here it would be like $250-$300 for a shift kit and valve body fix.
