  • Rear axle swap trouble codes Help!

    Hi guys,

I recently did the swap to a Posi rear from a TA. Since then I have been getting the ABS Inop and Trac Off lights on pretty consistently and when I first start the car the brakes grab a bit. I was bought a V8 proportioning valve but have not installed it since I read on here that is is not necessary unless you delete the ABS. Would installing the V8 Valve solve my problems?

    Thanks guys!

was your car a traction control equipped car? or did the trans am have traction control?

did you plug the abs sensor back into the top of the "pumpkin"?

you have a series 4 and bought a series 3 clearly his car has traction control or the traction light would not be on.

no, my car doesnt have traction control, but when my ABS sensors see that my wheel speed isnt right my ABS inop light and low traction light will come on.

the low traction light also comes on when my abs kicks in

my car is a 97 and the rear axle is out of a 94 trans am. If that helps?

This sounds like he problem i am having ^. It also seems like there is a lag between the time I press the pedal to the time the trans and rear end link up. What do I need to fix? Thanks for the help guys!

If you had a sensor on the pumpkin of your old rear end and there was a sensor on the pumpkin on the new rear end, then they were both 3 channel rear ends.

Assuming that they were both 3 channel, and the sensor is plugged in, you might start by verifying that there is speed sensor ring in the differential. With the cover off, you should see silver teeth pointed outwards directly to the left of the ring gear. If that isn't there, then there's nothing for that sensor on the top of the pumpkin to read, and that would be your problem. A 4 channel rear would have similar rings on the outer ends of each axle (behind the flange) and a sensor in each brake backing plate.

The proportioning valve (ABS block) from a V8 car is irrelevant. In fact, they're probably the same. Unless of course you are referring to an aftermarket proportioning valve, in which case you would be deleting ABS completely, which wouldn't help you at all if you're trying to get the ABS light to turn off.

This sounds like a transmission problem.
