I have a Torsen diff that's starting to slip, especially in right hand turns.....what is the best way to approach rebuild, i.e. contact Torsen vs. find a local shop, parts sources, etc?? It's in a 2001 Camaro with 3:42 diff.

Re: Torsen Rebuild
you sure its a torsen and not an auburn?
as far as I know torsens cannot be rebuilt, they are a worm gear system...so if it is slipping I would think that you have broken a couple spider gears...do you hear a banging when you turn at all?

Re: Torsen Rebuild
I read somewhere that GM sells a rebuild kit for the Torsen unit. Don't know what is in the kit, or if it will fix your problem. My guess is the worm gears have worn to the point of jumping teeth or just wore the teeth off.
Ask you local GM dealer to see if its rebuildable. If not, I would do the salvage yard search, or, if you have the finances, just order a new Eaton Truetrack. A nice upgrade from the Torsen.

Re: Torsen Rebuild
Try switching to a gear oil without the limited slip additive, like the redline 75-90NSDrivetrain Moderator - "There are no stupid questions, only stupid people!"

Re: Torsen Rebuild
The quality of the T2R has dropped in the past few years. Ask anyone involved in the Autocross scene and they'll tell you to find something else. Rebuilding a helical differential like the Torsen is going to be expensive, probably close to the price of a new unit, if not more.
Your best options for replacement are going to be either staying with the helical design like Torsen and the Truetrac, or going with a rebuildable clutch type like Auburn or an Eaton locker.'99 Camaro

At least that is what I read from the "clutch dumpers" on other forums.
