  • Changing Tranny Fluid.

I picked up some Royal Purple Synchromax for my 96, 5 speed Camaro.
Is there a tool that makes changing the fluid easier? I can't seem to find a filler neck under the hood like in an auto, so I'm guessing it all has to be done from under the car. Any tips for changing the fluid? It's strange that we have to use auto trans fluid in a manual gear box.

    Thanks.

You can fill it up through the gear box if its already torn down or just get a pump from checker or autozone that you screw on top of the bottle and the other end in the tranny fill up and pump the fuild back in the tranny. Once you see it, it will be your favroite pump, because you use it for the rear diff. also. Good luck.

this pump has come in handy so many times its not even funny.

get one, its well worth the few bucks.. but the only way to fill it without taking the shifter off is to take the fill plug out, and keep pumping it in until it starts to pour out... i believe its on the passenger side of the car.

most newer manual transmissions use ATF.. i dont even know if there is any that dont in non racing cars anymore.

I bought a B&M shifter that I plan on installing soon. Are you saying that I can fill it from the top where the shifter mounts?

You would still need to pull the fill plug so you dont overfill it. You fill it until it starts spilling out of the fill plug. If I remember correctly a 3/8" ratchet or extension fits the plug.

just pull the shifter off. and line your car with trash bags so you don't get it in there. and yes you still have to take out the top drain hole so you don't over fill. it is a 3/8 that you just stick in with no sockets. couldn't be any easier.

oh and royal purple is over rated.

i disagree....horsepower TV did a test on an LS1 Z28 with something like 80k miles on it...

ALL they did was change the oil, tranny fluid and rear end gear oil and they gained 9 RWHP....
