I'm not sure what's causing it, but the noise is coming the rear differential area and only happens when i stop or have it in park while its running. This has been happening for some time so far and i am having a hard time trying to figure out what's the cause.
def sounds like an tired old fuel pump.... mine actually made that noise for a few days, but right as I was about to replace it... it stopped, and the noise never came back, as of yet at least.

mine has been making it for almost a year now.
it is pretty common on gm cars, but i think i may have the first f body to make the noise and still have the fuel pump live more than a month

Hey man mine whines like a *****....been doing it for about a year and a half...and i didn't know it was the fuel pump till today so thanks.
yeah, my fathers impala's fuel pump whined really bad, so much so that you could hear it over the radio, he took it to the dealership under warranty, and they told him "oh, they all do that"
he took it back a few times until they "replaced the entire pump" (i have no idea if they actually did it) but the new pump whined also, but not as bad, and it eventually quit.
Don't mean to thread jack, but im getting the DTC P1221 Fuel Pump Secondary Circuit Low and i've had this humming for a long time. figured i would just change it out to a walbro 255

It's definitely the fuel pump because nothing in the rear end would be moving when you're sitting at a dead stop. This leaves the fuel pump as the culprit back there that would make that kind of noise.
"It could go any minute, depending on how lucky you are. I think I've been very lucky. Mine whines only occasionally after a long trip and usually only when it's very hot outside. When I idle, it will whine for a little bit and then it goes away. Giving it gas also makes it go away. During short town trips, it usually doesn't whine unless it's really hot. I thought when I was first hearing it that it would be a goner soon, but it's been pretty much two years later and still working... but I could expect it to go out at any moment."
Yes, I know \"Artic\" should be spelled \"Arctic\". Can any of the mods change this?
