I have a 3.4 and would like to put a short throw on it? First I wonder if this is the correct product, is for the 3.4 or the 3.8? Then I wonder how much work it is to actually do this.
i am sure that the transmission is the same. this one looks a little cheaper than the my billet plus and i love that thing. ask the seller to send a pic of where it says hurst on it cause i would have some suspicions that it might be a home made part. oh and the stops on the shifter are to prevent hurting the stops in the transmission thats why they put them in the newer hurst shifters.
Installation should be really simple, remove your shift knob, remove the shifter portion of the console, remove the lower base of the console ( don't have to do this but it gives you more room). then unbolt your OEM shifter and mount the new one in place, try it out and adjust your bumpstops to your preference, I have removed my bumpstops, it feels much better without them.
EDIT: I was actually looking at a HURST billet shifter for my M6 car from the same seller.
So should I buy this shifter for my 3.4l without the stops? And does my stock shifter have stops??
I don't have a 3.4 so can't tell you for sure. But as long as you can take it easy while shifting, you don't really need the bump stops; don't get me wrong you can still row thru your gears just be cautious.
I don't know if your stock shifter has bump stops, you can take your console off and take a look at the shifter itself to see, it won't hurt.
My shifter has what looks like a rubber dust cover on it and thats it. I havent pulled that guy up yet. I would love to have a shorter shifter though, my car feels like I am driving a truck.
Pull that dust cover up and it'll show the internals, have you tried just getting a shorter stick? I tried a shorter stick for a few months before getting a true shifter and it felt great.
the stock shifter does not have stops just a "break" point which has rubber in it to help protect the tranny. the short shifter does not have theat rubber part in it thats why the stops are good but if your just doing daily and not beating on it you don't need them but if you like to slam the gears some times its a good idea to have the stops.
