    Re: lost an axle today

so lets add insult to injury...I knew there had to be more underlying issues because god knows with my luck not just the C-clip would go...the whole f'n Brand new eaton posi unit is roasted...spider gears are chipped (probably from C-clip) housing is chewin to pieces, clutches are roasted...so much for being rebuildable...fml

          Re: lost an axle today

I think a guy on ls1tech might be making them...but Ive began looking into the 8.8's...there was one for sale in the classifieds on ls1tech for 625$...but it has gm 7.5 axles?? if it has gm axles, doesnt that mean it has to have a 7.5 posi/spool for the 10bolt?

I thought the whole reason to do with a bigger rearend was to go with a bigger posi/bigger axles?

secondly, as I begin searching into a ford/moser rear end as I am toying with the idea...there are several different axle spline setups (28,30,33,35) etc...whats the difference? Is anyone better? is it more splines the stronger it is?

Yes the more splines the stronger it is.

            I think I will go with a Strange S60(Dana 60) next year.

I think I'm going to go 33 spline, just ask that guy Cam he is very helpful.

                        Re: lost an axle today

hmm...so I've been crunching some numbers and I've come up with interesting numbers.

8.8 rear end built is $1000
                        Ford 8.8 4.56 gears and install kit $246 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ford-...Q5fAccessories
Ford 8.8 Posi unit runs about $200 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/FORD-...Q5fAccessories

not sure how much the axles are yet, but thats really the only other thing I need...and maybe wheel bearings...oh and brakes.

Looks like the total is gunna be around $1446 plus axles/brakes/bearings

Thinking that I could probably get $300 or so back from my rear end (between 3.90's, girdle, axle, housing etc...I dont think the damage is that that bad after all on the wallet.

Can someone tell me though in the link i provided for the gears it has an install kit...would that be everything I would need to install a set of gears/posi into a car?

anyone know anything about the posi I am looking at?

and does anyone know where I might be able to get stock LS1 style rear brakes cheap?

windsor is like 4 hours away still lol. There is some outside the city, like guelph usually...they always get pushed to the outer limits I find.

I think Im just gunna go ahead with the 8.8 though...the way I look at it is if I get a new unit it's not "is it going to break?" it's "when it's going to break"...if I do this, I never have to worry about it again...no more downtime, no more being stranded, no more headahces, no more worries. (from the rear end atleast)
