fully finished it today and had the car on the road the calipers were moved to the back where they should be, only one issue I am trying to iron out and can't pin point

sounds like something is rubbing in the back, but its an on/off constant rub like a whop whop whop whop (like rub/no rub, rub/no rub etc etc) that gets faster/slower with speed.

on the highway it feels like I am in 3rd gear rather than OD, almost like there is a load present on my motor I looked around and honestly can't see anything...pad wear on the rear rotors looks good with no burn marks

What else can rub in a rotating type fashion?

can it be gear related? if it was I would think it would be constant, this sounds almost as if something is rubbing at a particular spot every full rotation.

maybe driveshaft related?

The sound is made in drive or neutral, but only when moving...at idle there is no sound...

2ndly, I have c5 vette rims...do they need to be centered on the hub of the axle? because the moser axles I dont have a hub that sticks out far enough to reach the rim with the rotor on...

If there is a constant drag on the drivetrain then I wouldn't drive it until you figure out what it is.
I would start by unbolting the driveshaft from the rear end. Leave the front end in the transmission and try to spin the driveshaft by hand (with the trans in neutral). If it spins freely, then put the rear wheels in the air and put jackstands under the axle tubes and see if you can spin the pinion yoke by hand. Make sure the wheels/tires aren't rubbing on anything. If they are clear and you cannot spin the pinion by hand, then remove the wheels and check again. Next remove the brakes and check again. If you still have something dragging down the drivetrain, then the next step would be to remove the cover on the rear and and check there. Remove the axles and see if you can spin the pinion by hand. If you still cannot easily spin the pinion yoke, the problem must be in the ring and/or pinion. Remove the carrier and see if you can spin the pinion gear alone.

Hopefully you'll find the issue quickly and won't have to go through all of that.

As for the wheels- the lug nuts center the wheel, not the hub, so you should be fine there.

I remember being able to turn the axle by hand when I first got it bolted up and was bolting the drive shaft in (had to turn it to hit all 4 bolts) it turned pretty freely, had to use a bit of muscle, but I don't think it was really anymore than I had to use with my 10bolt

The brake rotors after driving weren't red, and no signs of being burnt (atleast on the front), the pad wear looks beautiful, even across the whole way.

I did have the car in the air on jackstands with my c5 rims, totally forgot that with the supension not under load the tire rubs on the bump stops...was trying to figure out what the hell was smoking when my dad was on the accerlator...ya 1.5 mm gouge in the side of my tire...thats garbage...

got my winter tires on now and they have plenty of clearance, still the same issue.

I had a thought of it possibly being the D/S safety loop, because the pinion is moved over a bit, but thinking about it some more, I probably wouldn't of been able to turn the rear pretty freely by hand then...

ALTHOUGH when the car is idling, it looks like the driveshaft is moving around (not just spinning but vibrating) I don't remember it doing that before...

I have a feeling it's brake related...the rotor doesn't sit 100% on the face of the axle, so I am wondering if maybe its rubbing the inner most pad as a result of the wheel being torqued down and pressing it inwards...maybe I have to add a shim to bring the caliper closer to the wheel allowing the rotor to sit out a little more

when I put my c6 rims on I didnt roll the fenders and I got a nice gouge in my tire :tdown:

so after taking it to the shop, I didnt put the U-joint in correctly, lost a clip lol...driveshaft was walking around back there, so he's ordering a new U-joint tommorrow and putting it in. (that was probably the clicking sound being made to)

I also need to replace my front rotors (he seems to think thats the rubbing sound), the got absolutly brutally rusted from sitting...like really really really bad, so I'll pop on some new rotors tommorrow and hopefully all issues will be resolved!

Yeah I've let some rotors rust really bad before. I thought a few hard braking moments would clean em up and clear out the scraping sound but that didn't work. Ended up changing them and that took care of it. I was worried it was something else too but that's all it was.

vibrations gone, driveshaft u joint fixed that...I still have that rubbing chugging noise, its litterally a chugging noise of something rubbing, so it has to be something spinning. Can't figure out what it is...rear brakes are seated nicely with even wear, as are the fronts with the new rotors.

Rear tires spin freely by hand even with the brakes attached, driveshaft rotates cleanly with no play now. I'm out of ideas....

Looks good , did you use shims on the backing plates? Also what was the grand total?

no, I didnt use the shims...not sure what they are used for? maybe that would stop the grinding? But my problem is I can't find what the grinding is coming from...grand total was around $1900 without selling anything from my rear...will be about 14xx with my parts sold...and the guy said you can get it done cheaper if you have alot of time to shop around...like in the realm of around 1200-1300$

How is the pinion angle and how did you set it?

The angle may be off when you load the suspension.

which would be the pinion angle? The backlash specs are 0.008-0.015...we sit in at 0.012

the preload has to be 8-12 inch lbs for used bearings and we are in at 12inlbs

I dont know much about rear ends, but wouldnt the pinion center itself? there are two taper bearings that get pulled into a race on that is pressed into the housing on either side?

Your pinion angle is controlled by the torque arm. If your torque arm isn't
adjustable, there's not much you can do.

The are a few ways to check it. Google it and figure out which way makes
the most sense to you.

A symptom of it being off is a pulsing vibration.
