Re: Ford 8.8 rear end swap

I get that noise after about a year on new brakes.

Dambed rust ridge near the hat of the rotor.

Hmmm...I don't see any rust on these though...and they're brand new lol...right out of the oily coated bag they did it...sitting at the mechanic shop now waiting for them to open...hopefully I get this resolved...on the bright side it has gotten quieter

        ok...new question.

When you are in drive (auto transmission with a stall) and you blip the throttle so that it revs up just a little (1500rpm up to 2000rpm) but you don't gain/lose any speed...what are the only things that rotate?

I've been hearing as of today a grinding sound when I do what is described above. Tranny fluid looks/smells good...no issues shifting as far as I have seen.

If you throw the car into neutral while driving and blip the throttle the sound doesnt happen...only while in drive and cruising at around 20mph or so...

Just throwing it out there as a possible problem since the nosie is under load.

Re: Ford 8.8 rear end swap

I had an epiphany....what size are the rear rotors suppose to be from a stock LT1 car? My rotors are like the exact same size as my front rotors pretty much, I remember not seeing very much clearance between the rotor and the caliper mount (the piece that holds the pad and slides in/out

Now wondering if maybe it is grinding under load because the rotors too big??

The rear is 9.5" or 11" can't remember and the front is 10.7"s so there should be a noticable difference.

The rears are actually bigger on an LT1,11's on the back to 10.5 on the front.

figured it out...still had play in the driveshaft U-joint...finally we found the correct one 1310/1330, quieted down all the noise.

I have a very faint rubbing sound that you can barely hear with the car off and coasting (like barely hear it), so Im going to drive it for a bit longer and see if I can still hear it next week...probably the pads just touching the rotor still (was a pretty snug fit)

Thats good to hear, aslong as it wasn't your motor.
